T460 fingerprint reader in T440p
The fingerprint reader on my T440p has started to malfunction. Looking online, it appears that the T460 uses the same fingerprint reader part number, 0C45851. Can anyone confirm that the T460 does indeed use the same fingerprint reader and that it's interchangeable with the T440p?

Today I took the fan off the heatsink assembly, removed the fan itself and put a a drop of 3-in-1 oil, closed it back up, and the rattle is completely gone. I applied MasterGel Nano thermal paste replacing the previous Arctic Silver 5 I had and it's running cooler now as well. Nice! I mean this tri...

Re: T61 experience on Windows 10
Yeah I did, I decided to disable it again as I feel the T61 touchpad is too small for two finger scrolling. I prefer one finger scrolling on it. On the other hand, two finger scrolling on my T440p is perfect and easy. For the record, two finger scrolling also did not work with the 19.0.17.142 driver...

What Synaptics driver version are T61 Windows 10 users running? I have found 18.1.27.43 to be the best one as it allows middle button scrolling to work in the Windows 10 metro apps (such as the Microsoft Store): https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds101836 The latest Windows 10 driver, 19.0.1...

Re: T61 experience on Windows 10
The only complaint I've had thus far on mine is that if I close the lid (suspend), more often than not when I reopen and try to resume, the display's messed up - the full screen is reduced to about 80% size, the colors are screwy, and there are weird patterns all over. Basically unusable. Doing ful...

Re: T61 experience on Windows 10
I believe you need to use the utility or the wireless switch for the LED to come off. Unlike wifi which the LED is controlled by the wifi card, I don't think that's the case with the bluetooth. It's strange how when I had Linux on it, the default Bluetooth on/off switch controls the LED light, yet ...

Re: T61 experience on Windows 10
Some updates on my T61, I decided to give Windows 10 a try again. I've done the following: 1) Upgraded from 4GB to 8GB RAM. 2) Removed the useless 1GB Intel Turbo Memory. 3) Replaced the Intel 4965 AGN WiFi card with the Intel 6300 AGN WiFI card. Everything is running great, the 8GB versus 4GB made ...

My T61 with NVS 140M failed 7 years ago and I ended up replacing it with an X3100 board 3 years ago to bring it back to life. Thanks for the info. I've been away from my T61 for almost a month now and will be away from it for a while longer, but will look at trying Windows 10 again on it at some point.
Quite happy running Linux Mint on it though, it's very fast.

Re: T61 experience on Windows 10
I'm running WIN10 on my T61 right now. 4GB of RAM, an SSD, Intel 7260 and it works well. I had very few problems with the drivers. I am waiting on a T61p I just bought to get here and will be installing Ubuntu or Mint on it to see how well it does. But for what I need, this T61 has done the busines...

Re: T61 DDR2 667MHz or 800MHz
Update on the RAM, I received it yesterday after 24 days in transit. I installed it in my T61 and it worked just fine, and ran Memtest86+ for 1 full hour and no errors shown. However, it is not genuine. I was suspicious from the generic packaging and the part number on the sticker, does not match 4G...

Re: T61 fan rattle
If you can take your fan apart, you can also just try and lubricate your fan if the fan allows you to do so, and that most likely will solve you that problem. Did that to like 3 T43 long fans and one T41 short fan and no problems with noise since. For these things the fan blades come off the base o...

T61 fan rattle
The fan on my 14.1" widescreen T61 is starting to rattle a bit, or maybe it has for a while and I've only started noticing it now that I replaced the hard drive with a solid state. It rattles at specific RPMs and is loudest as the RPMs are increasing rapidly or slowing down rapidly. I'm assuming the...

Has anyone gotten the new Lenovo Power Manager used for Lenovo Vantage to work in the T61? The installer runs but it doesn't actually properly install it.

Pretty sure it just doesn't work on the T61, but thought I'd ask.

Re: T450s - upgrade to SSD
Samsung 860 pro ? Either Evo or Pro. The Pro lines are expensive, but if you want peace of mind in terms of reliability, go for it. The speed increase over the Evo is negligible and not noticeable in real life, so the reason to pay the premium is for reliability and peace of mind, especially if you...

Definitely, just make sure to install the Middleton BIOS to unlock the motherboard's SATA II speed capabilities.

Re: T61 experience on Windows 10
Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'm about to embark on the last and final upgrade for my T61, to go from 4GB to 8GB of RAM.
Thought about trying Windows 10 again, but with the audio and bluetooth problems I had, I don't think it's worth the hassle.

T61 experience on Windows 10
A few weeks ago when I finally decided to put an SSD in my T61, I figured I'd give Windows 10 a try on it and the experience was far from smooth. I could not get the sound to work, I eventually downloaded the Windows 7 SoundMax drivers and those brought the sound to work but upon restart, I lost the...

That's a decent improvement from the 92 degrees and I can tolerate that, as long as it doesn't trigger thermal thr...

Re: T440p i7 4712MQ heat?
I ordered some Kryonaut per your recommendation and from what I've read a lot online. It seems very good, HOWEVER, it also may not be the best application if the laptop naturally runs at very high temperatures. Apparently after 80 degrees C, it will start to dry up and lose effectiveness, which is n...

I watched this same youtube on my T440p with FHD, iGPU and i7-4702MQ (with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut). Temperature never went over 56 C. Guess it's time for you to refresh the thermal paste with Kryonaut. For the how-to: http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appmeth/int/ss/intel_app_method_surface_spread_...

I have an i7-4800MQ in mine and it idles in the low 50's.
