Re: Which external floppy for ThinkPad 760XL/Dock I
This is the best option I think P/N 66G5069 or P/N 66G3695. This is a case for a FDD that takes same floppy drives like in 755-760 thinkpads.

Re: Which 300/700 series has this clicky tactile keyboard?
My TP 755CD and 360CE have the same high quality "clicky" keyboard, which feels and works very well. Whereas 760LD and 760EL have same very crappy keyboard. Keys are not stabilized, and they get stuck if pressed not right in the center. I now wonder if there is a better keyboard repalcement for 760 ...

Re: Adding a 5.25 FDD to Thinkpad DOCK I
So I went ahead and bought a low profile Epson SD-700 drive. The body itself is exactly 1 inch thick, so it will fit into the DOCK. The face plate has to be modified. Will do this if everything works. As for the controller - will try those newly made 8 bit ISA FDC controllers for XT machines with ow...

Re: Adding a 5.25 FDD to Thinkpad DOCK I
There actually was an IBM 5.25 drive option that connected to the original dock using the external mainframe drive. It required the full length microchannel controller card in the slot. I ran across part numbers in someone's copy of the IBM PC Support data. The problem today would be finding a work...

Adding a 5.25 FDD to Thinkpad DOCK I
Hello everyone! I've been thinking over the idea of connecting a 5.25 floppy drive to laptops, Thinkpads in particular. There are not so many options, which are external LPT or SCSI drives. But these are rare, expensive and I'm not sure they even exist. So when I found out that there are slim 5.25 d...

Welcome to the forum!
And thank you for posting this.
I have a Dock I and it works fine, so far. I've disassembled mine once to see what's inside and was really impressed how many caps that sound board had, it looked like a hedgehog. I'm afraid I'll have to do the recapping one day too.

I was under the impression that removing an HDD password along with a secure erase is an official and legal procedure. Nothing is hacked, data is protected. Indeed this sounds like BOD. There is another way of curing it, but no guarantees of course. But it still requires soldering (a resistor), but not too complicated. More details here (german) https://thinkwiki.de/BoD I consider doing this on my BoD-affected A21m. I understood that it's considered a ...

Re: Where to find 755CD's and the like
Hi everyone, I just watched an intriguing demonstration of a brick in operation. I thought it would be fun to own one, maybe as an oversized toy. I thought they would be cheap, like an early T series, but apparently, they're not. I couldn't even find one on Ebay! Are they now museum pieces, or do p...

Re: Dead/Blank HDD on a 760XD. Alternatives?
I appreciate the reply. Is there a way to bypass using the HDD or the enclosure at all? I'm hoping a spare I have on the way will work but in case it doesn't, is there a way to just, uh, not use the drive at all and go with something else, like a CF card? or am I going to have to use even the enclo...

Overall I'm happy with this seller. But the NOS LCD panel that I received was degraded due to age (and I suspect due to storage conditions). I got my refund right away.

Re: Flakiness and sporadic non-boot on a 760ED, possibly related to battery?
Hi Chris, welcome to the forum.
Did you try to remove the main battery? I have a 755cd laptop that would not boot with a dead battery installed. I suspect that in your case the laptop works while the battery is charged to some extend. And stops working when it's completely discharged.

Recently acquired a 755CX in an absolutely perfect shape, barely used. Only had a leaked resume battery. Cleaned that up, and it booted right up. But, the keys near the TrackPoint as well as a few random keys are completely dead, same for the left TrackPoint button (the right one barely works). Can...

Re: Is it possible to read 5.25" floppy discs with a 770?
There are external 5.25" FDDs that connect to LPT port. Usually they are not cheap, but good deals sometimes pop up on ebay. I cannot think of any reasons why you cannot use it on a thinkpad. EDIT: found this on ebay for example https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cumulus-123501-External-360K-5-25-Floppy-Disk-...

I've seen once a SL6WZ on ebay, and the price was around $90. These are quite expensive as they are rare. But if you want it because of performance, it's not really worth the money. I personally ended up buying a SL6P2.

Did you also try to boot from a diskette? is the drive detected by bios?
AFAIR it's possible to test HDD and Mobo in BIOS.
From what you tell, I assume it's indeed something wrong with the motherboard.

I've spent quite a lot of time looking for DOS drivres for my 330C. Eventually ended up trying drivers for other models. Will post my findings here for the history. Cardsoft drivers for 340/360/755 work perfectly also on 330 series. Filename is pctpx130.exe, available here http://greyghost.mooo.com/...

Re: Question on IBM 3545-001 Dock I
LONG time lurker, first time poster. This dock is fairly unique, in that the sound volume is controlled by Fn+PgUp and Fn+PgDn on the laptop, NOT the hardware volume slider/knob above the keyboard. (I can confirm this applies to at least the 755CX and 760* laptops). Of course, there is also a hardw...
