Re: Clonezilla doesn't work on X1C6

Maybe try forcing integrated graphics and copy to ram. If that doesn't work... Did you download clonezilla for i386 or amd64? And are you booting UEFI or Legacy? Try selecting either/or from the startup device menu. What is the partition format? Is the partition table GPT or MBR? If GPT, then it has...

Re: A question about an online seller in US

They are so sketchy that they just might be legit. Pay with a credit card and fight the charge if nothing comes. Ditto. You should be fine doing this. IMO the bigger issue is whether they are a good value. What part are you looking for? How competitive are they compared to other sellers? How much do...

Re: Can't connect to wifi or ethernet on campus

On windows, open command and type ipconfig On linux, open terminal and type ip a If the network interface shows a valid address, first ping the gateway by opening a terminal and typing ping, then leave a space, then the gateway's address. If that works, try pinging a website like www.google.com If i...

Re: X220 upgrade to 16GB RAM. Tipps

Lenovo's spec sheet (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd015812) says the maximum amount of memory you can install is 8gb. It only supports so-dimms up to 4gb.
Edit: Apparently it still works with 16gb anyway

Re: Can't connect to wifi or ethernet on campus

It also depends on the authentication method. Make sure you are selecting the right kind as you connect. Wifish seems to handle that on its own. Either way, even ethernet doesn't seem to work, and I don't have to select anything for that. On ethernet, are you assigned an ip address from the DHCP se...

Re: Thinkpad X1 Tablet i5 faster than i7?

Yeah, as much as we can all hate on Windows 10 there isn't much else out there that can directly compete. Personally I prefer 8 to 10, since it's still pretty good with touch/tablet input but is much more stable. I've also had some luck loading ChromiumOS to get decent touch support and the android ...

Re: blown X40

You could always try removing the charger and the battery, holding down the power button for a few seconds, then reconnecting the charger before doing anything drastic. If that doesn't work, you could try clearing cmos by removing the bios battery for a few minutes and putting it back, however that ...

Re: it it ever cost-effective to replace a used ThinkPad's screen?

Whether or not it's worth it really depends on how much of an improvement there is and how much the user values it. The HD+ screen is a noticeable jump in quality, but still not the best. Since you need to replace the screens anyway, the $20 is worth it. The IPS FHD Real pointed out is a huge jump i...

Re: Thinkpad X1 Tablet i5 faster than i7?

100% agree, most of the stuff happening in the background like telemetry, force downloading games, etc. is just awful. And every weekly forced 1gb patch they release breaks something. Slowdowns, killing the battery, loosing files, or total bricking. They realized that they would keep their consumers...

Re: 8GB to 16GB upgrade, noticeable speed boost?

I'd bet it's the processor, it'd be roughly four times as powerful. The speed of the storage might also play a role. Windows 10 has lots of background tasks like updates, telemetry, superfetch/prefetch, auto-downloading games, etc. and will use more ram if you have it. so if you're on 10 you might a...

Re: X230 - how to identify IPS panel online?

Utilities like HWInfo, AIDA64, Everest, etc. should still be able to give you the specific model number regardless of model loaded.
4291YYH is a model number, not a serial number.

There's a small chance the keys might just be dirty, or the connection to the motherboard is loose or dirty. Did you already try re-seating the cable?

Re: T510 Strange USB Port

I'm pretty sure that's just a normal USB port. If it was esatap, it would be capable of both esata and usb. But it looks like it was downgraded to plain old usb on your particular machine.
