Re: X230 MC7710 drivers from Lenovo?

Check this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32791111744.html That looks like the antenna you're looking for. Unfortunately these are 4G antennas (which actually are useless for any "WWAN ready" laptop where the GSM antennas work just fine for 4G), not GPS antennas: I got a pair of exactly these alo...

Re: X230 MC7710 drivers from Lenovo?

Jake, <snip/> The 4G Sierra MC7710 on the other hand is a 4G card with 3 antennas required. Uprgade from H5321 to MC7710 requires one additional antenna which isn't there and that's the issue. I've installed an MC7710 into my x230 with the primary and Aux antennas available and connected. On first b...

Re: [x230] Linux vs Win7 Driver issues [Cry for help]

I suggest to reinstall W7 but this time from an X230 Lenovo Recovery set as found here: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=128170 The messed up install was from exactly that source. However, I got another cheap 120G SSD and re-installed the OS, and Voila, no issues. Now the issue is, ...

WTB: x230 Palmrest with FPR

After a bad experience with quality on AliExpress, I'm on the market to buy a palm rest with a fingerprint reader for my x230. My over-the-top requirements: 1. Not torn or cracked up. Gently used is fine, polished to a mirror finish is probably not. 2. Reader should be centered in it's hole. 3. Corr...

Re: Windows 7 durability against power issues

I've managed to trace the problem issues to 4 drivers not being loaded correctly, which leads to the failure of the input devices: 5/22/2019 16:53:02 - The driver \Driver\iusb3xhc failed to load for the device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_21FA17AA&REV_04\3&42ffd25&0&A0. 5/22/2019 16:53:02 - Applicat...

Re: Windows 7 durability against power issues

All of my computers, running various versions of Windows, have suffered unexpected power losses at one point or another, and yet I've never encountered the symptoms you describe. I therefore conclude that it is something specific to your system. I may have a culprit, but not sure yet. I dual-boot L...

Windows 7 durability against power issues

Today, my laptop underwent an unclean poweroff (a second time), and on the next boot up into windows, all input devices stopped working. The keyboard, trackpoint, trackpad and external USB mouse, were all unresponsive. I didn't try a USB keyboard (I didn;t have one lying round), but I expect it woul...

Re: [x230] Adventures with Recovery media [Long read]

I have discovered that you can install the base Windows 7 using just the operating system recovery disk and when it prompts you to put in the Applications & Drivers CD just press "No" and it'll continue... I discovered this in error when using the CDs on a T42, I had clicked Yes but something went ...

Re: [x230] replacement parts questions

There is no Optical Drive in the X230, unless you also got an Ultrabase with it. Ram can go up to 2x8=16GB. Most of those new parts go inside anyway, so the only thing you may need to worry about is the Fingerprint reader (which I personally find useless and have never used). You're probably right ...

[x230] Adventures with Recovery media [Long read]

My second hand x230 came with a windows7 install on it's 320G WD Blue (mfg. Oct 2013) with: - Missing drivers for lots of stuff, including the function key functionality and Battery tools, which annoyed me a bit. - atleast one worm pre-installed, which annoyed me a LOT. So I decided to get myself a ...

[x230] WiFi signal strength comparison of cards

My x230 came with a Intel Centrino Wireless N 2200 WLAN card. When I tried to share my 4G data via a phone hotspot, I discovered that by default my phone uses the 5GHz band (I think it's the 802.11n standard?) for creating a hotspot, and is thus invisible to the 2200 which is for 802.11b/g . I've no...

FYI: if you want to use non-Lenovo batteries, you MUST do the battery-check EC firmware mod as described at the top of this forum. I'm very new to the Thinkpad world, with a second hand x230 (from parts unknown) purchased 2 weeks back. Re: X230 and playing Fortnite?

Despite everything being done and over with, I'd like to add the point that with an x230 set up to use an eGPU, game-time would be restricted to home, which is great for kids, who have poor impulse control (if any).
