It has nothing to do with booting source - It doesn't get that far, it hangs after splash screen, before it even asks for a boot-password. You can't choose a boot device, you cannot enter boot menu or BIOS setting menu.

Keyboard backlight IS NOT handled by OS, it's done by EC/BIOS, so Windows version has nothing to do with it.
