Re: T440p - Worried about chipset overheating

first, let's get the terminology right to prevent unnecessary confusion. Intel's chipsets after the Core 2 series was just the PCH (platform controller hub), defined by Intel themselves. in the Core 2 series and before, it was a northbridge and a southbridge setup. in older platforms, there would b...

T440p - Worried about chipset overheating

So I did a mobo swap on my T440p, and I forgot to install the thermal pad for the chipset. I think it's the Southbridge chip. It's on the side of the motherboard with the keyboard/touchpad connectors. I'm not sure if the new motherboard had a thermal pad but I'm guessing not. So far I've noticed the...

Fastest WiFi card that can be installed in a T60 with modified BIOS??

My T60 currently has a WiFi card with 42T0825 (Qualcomm). I recently flashed a modified BIOS, and I believe it removes the WiFI card whitelist. What's the fastest one I can install? I have Intel 7260 card just sitting around, can I use it in my T60 now?

So I downloaded that BIOS and made a bootable FreeDOS USB. The flashing tool is telling me "BIOS ROM file may be corrupt (Extended checksum not zero)"

Should I continue anyway?

T60 gets stuck on the startup logo for a bit

My T60 takes awhile to get past the startup logo. It takes like 10-20 seconds? That doesn't seem right to me. I've went into the BIOS and I'm sure the boot mode is "quick", and I don't have the extended memory test enabled. My RAM setup is 2x2GB, and I'm on the latest BIOS version.

Replacing T440p keyboard connector

One of the connectors for my T440p's keyboard has become loose and doesn't hold without tape. I'm wondering if I can replace it? I found the schematic diagram, and on page 64 it goes over both keyboard connectors; for the larger one it says "JAE_FL10S032HA1" and for the other one, "JAE_FL10S012HA1"....

Re: Is it safe to power a T21 with a 53W power supply?

You should have no issues using that adapter. For some reason the problem was the AC cord, for some reason it only outputs around 60V AC, instead of 120V. Have no idea why, it's just a cable with no circuity. Using a different AC cable fixed the problem, although the high-frequency sound is still t...

Issues installing T60 bezel, I can see the backlight from an angle

After installing a new SXGA+ IPS panel for my T60, it's really annoying me. On the right side of the bezel you can actually see the actual light from the CCFL backlight if you look from a specific angle. It seems like the bezel doesn't want to "snap" into the place all the way and is sort of loose. ...

Is it safe to power a T21 with a 53W power supply?

Hi, the 72W (16V/4.5A) power apdater for my T21 for some reason randomly will "die" and send no power, but then it will begin sending power again. No idea why this happens, it also makes a very high frequency noise that I can hear faintly. I have a power supply for a 390E, it takes the same voltage ...

Don't bother with Plasti-Dip, that's crap and will probably hold for 1-2 weeks, IF you are lucky.
I don't see the problem with using plasti-dip, as long as you do it properly and use a lot of thin layers. What else is similar to IBM's old rubber coating on ThinkPads?

Let me warn you about a non-compatible part. I tried using a Toshiba M a t s u s h i t a LTD141EM1X screen from a VAIO Z1. I think my trusty old T61 model 7658-CTO is on a new path. It was working with Win 7, but now is on to Win 10. After a lot of fiddling, it now has Middleton BIOS, Crucial 500 GB SSD, and I got the external monitor working by reinstalling the old video driver from a decade ago (!). It is running Win...

Yes, you can.
And if any cable is too long, just fold it.
Both XGA and SXGA+ use the same inverter.
Do you know if the SXGA+ panels use a longer inverter cable? (the pink and white connectors). They shouldn't because they are both 14 inch panels.

Nah, "pink booting" is a sure sign of a dying CCFL. Some people have managed to replace a T2x CCFL, but more often than not it failed. Best thing would be to replace the LCD. Sort of off-topic, but do you know if it's possible to replace an 14.1" XGA LCD panel/cable in a T21 with an SXGA+ one? The ...

Some good news! I got the backlight to work at one point. it turns on during the POST I believe. For F24 follow pin 8 from the KB-connector, fuse is marked with an H. You need to do the search yourself. KB-backlight fuse = F24 F13 and F23 are connected with the touchpad trackpoint, don't know which function. All three are 1A/32V_ERBRD1R00X fuses. Don't know how you did that, probably forced it in while the cable clamp was already down. You could try to cut off the damaged part (in a straight line) and also make those 2 square "side-placeholder" cuts a bit deeper, the exact width of the cut-off. Then put the cable in, clamp it down and use a...

How can you bend contacts on a flat cable?
Did you screw up the motherboard and/or touchpad connector?
Put a link here to a picture of that 'bad' cable.

Sounds like either a faulty touchpad or a faulty touchpad cable. Does your machine have a fingerprint reader? If so, that FPR is on the same cable as the touchpad and could also have become mis/disconnected. Check the touchpad cable that it is not torn and that it is straight and properly inserted/...
