Rescue & Recovery CD Process just loops

I have a T-42 I'm trying to restore to factory settings. I am using the following a) Rescue and Recovery CD & b) Recovery CDs 1-7. When I boot to the Rescue disk and select "restore to factory settings" the process asks for the Recovery CDs 1-7 and loads that data to my hard disk. At the end of disk...

Why not look at an X300 then? It's highly portable and powerful (except, like the X200, in the graphics department). It would cost a bit more than the X200, but I'm sure you'd come out way ahead in comparison with compared buying an interim machine or trying to shoe-horn a touchpad onto an X200. I'...

X200 would be acceptable but for one thing, touchpad

A little background My trusty T-42 held up great through 5 hard years of constant use, but last week I think the motherboard finally gave out (doesn't seem to fully power up any HDD). So I'm in need a new ThinkPad and am in a bit of a bad decision spot. I could get a temp solution (a used T43/43P) ...

way to access data on ext drive?

My T-42 is in the repair shop for a new system board. I do have the HDD that was used the system. I've tried booting the drive via an external USB adaptor on both a T-40 and T-42 to no avail. After setting the boot order in the BIOS, on post I get an error message that wants to send me to the Rescue...

More bad news

Evidently my system board is fried. Seems a bit weird to happen now. I'm going to see about hints on using 2 boot drives on it when I get it back later this week.

Well not quite there yet

Bill, Thankfully I had an ext USB HDD adaptor. I tried booting to the new 80 externally with no luck even after rechecking the boot order. My T42 has Bios ver 3.5a and embedded controller ver 3.01a. I'm not totally sure I have USB support in the current version. The error messages I get on POST are:...

New Hard Disk unbootable after good restore

I've been using my std 40 GB drive in the CD slot (on my T-42) for quite awile while I thought about what I wanted to upgrade my primary hard drive in the regular Hard Disk slot to. Well today I installed a new 80GB drive in the Hard Drive tray and used the Factory Restore disks to bring it back on ...

Mission accomplished

Thanks Zeitgeist for the suggestions.

After looking at those links I thought I'd just go through the screwdriver route to pull out temporarily the card, then flash the Bios and then install the card again. Everything now works fine.

Thanks again.

wrong install order, a/b/g now in but bios needs update-how?

I'm trying to help a friend who installed his new A/B/G Mini-PCI wireless adaptor in his T-40 before updating his bios. On boot/restart he gets this error: Error 1082 Unauthorized network card is plugged in- Power off and remove the mini-pci network card. Well I guess I could do that but is t...

Anyone have a Enhanced Performance Wireless Keyboard ?

I'm interested in using this keyboard with my Thinkpad T-40 docked. The IBM Enhanced Performance Wireless Keyboard and Optical Mouse. http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=-840&langId=-1&partNumber=73P4067&storeId=1 If anyone has one I'd be interested what the key...

I do recall you do have to turn on the Headset with its built in switch a couple of times until it appears. I folowed the exact same steps you did, and it is working for me. On my T42 when I use the audio properties, in the mixer I can select the "bluetooth" mixer or the built in sound card. Perhap...

Thanks. The IBM Bluetooth worked great with the Motorola HS810. It is impressive making a VoIP (Vonage) call via a wireless bluetooth headset from the softphone in my T42 connected via WiFi to the NET. I got my new BT Motorola HS820 to pair with my T42 using pass code 0000 and after downloading the...

For the best image quality, color, sharpness, and text and video display, definitely consider the Samsung 213T. I shopped around for a 1600x1200 display recently, and nothing comes close. I don't play any games, so I didn't take that into consideration. It easily rotates and has DVI and VGA input. ...

NEED LCD ideas for 1600x1200 off T42 w/64MB Radeon 9600

What are fellow forum users using for 2nd LCD monitors externally, through DVI 1600 x 1200 support-18/19" or higher? My old CRT finally died so an LCD is on my hit list. Any good suggestions for my T42 that provide a great display, mostly for text, graphics and video than for full game performance? ...

Slim Bay Hard Drive dismounts on data transfer

I formatted it ok and now have tried twice to move some files from a USB connected drive to the 5k80 and during the data transfer windows comes up with can't find file problem and I then see that the slim bay drive does not show in eit...
