Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger? (SOLVED!)

You may be confusing airplane mode with airplane power mode. There is a function in lenovo vantage that is supposed to prepare the laptop for the power delivery climate of an airplane outlet, which would seem to make it more prepared for power outages and low wattage caps during charging. I thought ...

Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger? (SOLVED!)

I'm curious, does turning on airplane power mode in lenovo vantage change anything when working with a charger that is too small? Also the battery saver?

Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger? (SOLVED!)

Congrats! I'm glad I could put some of my research to use. I actually just thought of something, I wonder if this also fools the laptop when it's using a dock? If it does that might not be much use anyway because the dock may as well have a big charger, but if it doesn't then that might be a good th...

Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger?

That's Lenovo Vantage. It gives you a few settings for the laptop and it can tell you about your battery. It also keeps all drivers updated from one place. You can download it from the Microsoft store on windows 10. Be warned it is a bit slow and promotes other Lenovo products. There is a way to ins...

Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger?

I guess as long as it will accept 135w that is probably better. My concern was that it doesn't but I've never had one to test.

Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger?

It looks like they made a mistake in that thread, as I seem to be understanding that 10k ohms is 65w, no connection is 90w, 170w is 1.5k ohms, and according to the second thread, a short to the pin is 135w. Thus jumping the ground to the sensor pin would make it think it's 135w no matter what, and c...

Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger?

Another thing would be USB-PD. If you could get 90W to work, there are adapters you can get cheaply online to negotiate the right voltage with a USB power delivery source such as a 90 watt brick or battery bank. However, I have only seemed to find them for the square tip charger and I can't find ada...

Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger?

This reminds me of a time when I was trying to figure out the same issue with my W541. At the time I was looking at a solution and had seriously started to consider it. This person on reddit has made multiple posts over the years about expanding their t420s battery by pretty big amounts. I was think...

Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger?

Indeed, it is only with the laptop closed, it gives the same message you get off I open it. I am loving the X1 yoga. It is very thin and portable, and it really feels like they've packed in everything from bigger thinkpads. It gets great battery life and has a pleasing screen. The few issues I have ...

Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger?

I believe that it is based on machine design and not by CPU. I have a t530 that I upgraded from dual to quad core and it doesn't need the 135w charger, even though I believe factory quad cores required or at least shipped with them. My W541 has always needed 170W and that is one of the main reasons ...

You're taking about the ultranav settings, right? If so, it is a lot of settings indeed. If you're having issues with recognition maybe check the PalmCheck/accessibility settings, or the tap zones to see if one is set to do that. If you don't have the ultranav settings (control panel - mouse) then y...

I may have heard of something like a 7% improvement at most. I have one with the XM chip and although this may not say much, it doesn't feel quite as fast on the desktop as my PC with a pentium G4560 (7th gen dual core 3.5ghz).

That could be it, but I doubt it as the drivers reset every time the machine sleeps without fail, internet or no, and it never happens while the laptop is running. Also the drivers weren't installed before on the X1 yoga, then I installed them and they now work but reset. I am again very confused th...

Touchpad drivers reset after waking from sleep

I seem to be having an issue. On my W541 and my X1 Yoga 1st gen, the touchpad/trackpoint synaptics driver allows me to adjust settings, and they make changes. Then after closing and opening the lid, they always reset. This happens after restarting too. They have never worked correctly in the first p...

T430s Classic Keyboard Trouble

So I've recently taken up to installing a classic keyboard into my T430s. The donor laptop is a T520 that has been upgraded with a T530 motherboard, which had been flashed with the EC mod but the keyboard had not had pins isolated. This time I decided to isolate the pins. After sanding/clipping the ...

Re: Can I use 1vyrain to jailbreak W541? Anyone done this?

Removing the whitelist on haswell and newer requires direct BIOS reading, modification, and flashing using a ch341a programmer and soic8 clip. Usually someone else does the modification. https://youtu.be/ce7kqUEccUM This video should explain the whole process. It can be done by most people but takes...

Hmm. I guess no quad-channel then. I had read it was available previously, but they must have been wrong as they didn't seem to be sure anyway. Anyway though, I guess I don't know about RAM speeds and the answer may be nice to know for me too.

Re: Upgrade to W541 vs stay with W530

My unit was shipped to me "barebones" with an 8gb stick and I haven't gotten around to upgrading yet. As far as speeds go I would imagine any quad-channel setup is probably more than enough so I would rather go that way than worry about smaller increases in clock speed. W541 owner here - with 4940mx, 1080p ips, and k2100m. Having moved from a t520, t430s, and t430, this is just on a different level of normal usability. It's a far more modern device, and you wouldn't look at it and see "old" like you do on pre-redesign machines. The trackpad is also loads and loads ...

You should also make sure your T430s is capable. It must have an i7 processor and no Nvidia graphics, and presence should be indicated by there being a thunderbolt symbol rather than a displayport symbol above the port.

Re: Default / best BIOS settings for Windows 10 on T430s (i7 w/TB1)

My recommendation: Disable secure boot, set UEFI first, and don't worry about OS optimized defaults. You may try loading OS optimized defaults if that means for Windows 8 on your machine if you have trouble without them.

Re: Warning: Digital Signature in NEW Lenovo Embedded Controllers prevents Classic Keyboard, Battery WL Firmware mods

The reason this works is that, to my understanding, the current BIOS is what blocks the flash, not what you are updating to. Thus, if you are not on the newest version that blocks flashing, then flashing the newest modified version can’t be blocked because it is handled by the non-blocking BIOS. Sor...

Just wondering, why Catalina and not Mojave? My understanding is that the only real improvements in Catalina are features you could already get from apps, and that it throws out support for tons of legacy stuff and is very buggy.
