Rather than replace, solder the new fuse piggyback style on top of the old one.
Thanks for the tip!

Bad RAM slot possibly bad memory controller.

Either way you're looking at a planar swap in order to fix the issue.

IMO, that is.

Personally, I'd just run it with 3GB until something else decided to fail.

Good luck.
Roger that. Thank you everyone for the help!

Re: How should I go about replacing a broken inverter?

I received the inverter but it indeed did not help. I think I have the same issue as you, if you could, would you please let me know which part to replace? I'd love to try it on my machine, I still have it lying around! Don't have any spare motherboards here, it appears this particular model is not...

Re: How should I go about replacing a broken inverter?

I found an inverter for sale on a website with free worldwide shipping. I've ordered it and it should be here in a month or so. Thanks again for the help! did it arrive and work? I have an X61s where I thought the inverter board blew out, but when I replaced it the backlight still wouldn't turn on....

Re: Unable to upgrade RAM past 3 gigs on a Thinkpad R61e

Swap the RAM modules around, then try again. Gave that a try, it doesn't boot once it gets stuck at "1013M Extended RAM Passed" message. Tried with both the 1GB and 2GB sticks swapped around and with 2 2GB sticks. Just to clarify, this is what I see before the laptop hangs up: https://i.imgur.com/Z...

Re: Unable to upgrade RAM past 3 gigs on a Thinkpad R61e

I haven't used Memtest86 before, but it's been running for about an hour now, and it says "Pass complete, no errors, press ESC to exit" on screen. I've tried it with 2 sticks that work together (the 2GB and 1GB). I have tried to use 5 other sticks, which each works when they're the only stick in the...

Run Memtest 86 and report back. You're most likely looking at a bad DIMM, bad RAM slot or both.
Will do!

Re: Unable to upgrade RAM past 3 gigs on a Thinkpad R61e

Now that's really strange. How about booting the RAM without any memory installed? Expect the 1-3-3-1 error beep code. Turn off, disconnect charger and battery, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Then install the RAM. Just tried this, after all the steps the laptop still freezes o...

Just updated the BIOS with the CD image from this site. The BIOS did update successfully, but the issue is still there.

Unable to upgrade RAM past 3 gigs on a Thinkpad R61e

Hello! I recently got myself a nice R61e and since it had no RAM installed, I thought I'd install 2x2GB sticks. For some reason, when booting with 2 sticks of 2GB, the laptop gets stuck at "1013M Extended Ram Passed" and hangs. Nothing happens after. Both the sticks work, and both boot when I instal...

Re: How should I go about replacing a broken inverter?

Thank you for the suggestion! I'll keep an eye out for my model (T62.126.C.00). The other one you suggested has a different kind of connector it seems, so unless I replace the ribbon cable as well I doubt it will fit.

How should I go about replacing a broken inverter?

Hi! I'm new to the site, and I am not sure where to post this question. I have recently got hold of a nice i-series 2611-552 Thinkpad. It works fine, except that the display doesn't have backlight. I've disassembled the screen and figured out that it was the inverter's fault. I did take it to a repa...
