i've added those oddball drives to the ThinkWiki with the FRU and bezel identification included. thanks a lot for letting me know about this Screamer, maybe you should be handling the FRUs instead y'know?

if you happen to need some details regarding the inner workings of SpeedStep, you can read it here: https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/SpeedStep . the old writeup was somewhat incorrect so i gave it a touch up. and here's Turbo Boost: https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Turbo_Boost . i typed out whatever i k...

Yes. It does exist. I've owned one many years ago. excellent, but do you happen to recall the FRU and ASM part numbers of the battery? i'd like to know the part numbers, and maybe even the battery's voltage and amperage if possible. do you also happen to recall the battery's compatibility, as in wh...

there is this strange looking part in the second edition of the 15.4" R61/R61e/R61i's HMM, "Ultrabay Enhanced battery (2nd bay battery)" FRU 40U4890. what is this? a typo? i've been looking around and there's no clear indication if it's real or it's just a mistake in the HMM. could anyone verify if ...

any A21e, A22e, or i Series 1800 shares their keyboards with the T20, T21, T22, and the T23. i used to have an i Series 1800 that had its keyboard swapped out for a T2x's keyboard, so that works too. however, it WON'T fit on A21e models that are not MT 2655/2663/2664 systems. those A21e models were ...

install S3's ChroMetal 4.5 unified driver package, but i'm not very sure if it'll work because S3's driver support is known to be absolute crap.

there's no .exe to run the setup for that driver, so install it via device manager by using the 'update driver' method on 98SE, don't use this on 98FE.

assuming those optical drives from your research are the 2.5-inch MicroSATA LG BU40N and the BU50N tray-loaders, you're close. but unfortunately, to 'legally' play UHD Blu-rays, you need something more than a optical drive capable of reading said media. you need a GPU that supports HDMI 2.0a with HD...

no, there aren't any of them. current UHD Blu-ray drives that are available for now are too big and too tall to fit, you should just get an external optical drive if such a feature is important to you.

Re: Feeling proud of my mint condition G40.

there isn't a trick behind the Pentium M 7x0's TDP ratings, it was simply Intel's decision to rate them on a 'TDP class' basis rather than accurately stating each CPU's TDP (see the Pentium 4 CPUs for an example of an 'accurate' TDP rating). so, if a CPU's TDP happens to be between 30~40 W (let's sa...

it's clearly not measuring Tcase if that's truly the temperature reported, it should be Tjunction considering the extremely high core temperature.

yes it does, but only under Windows XP and above. for 2000 and below, that's going to need Intel's SpeedStep utility to change multipliers.

it's not 'marketing crap', that's what the CPUs have been tested and certified for . you have to also consider that not all CPUs are the same in terms of performance , since any of them can perform differently, even if they are identical models (e.g: my 2500K overclocks better than my friend's 2500K...

the CPU isn't just the CPU itself for this era, it's more than that. a lot of people in the know call these new CPUs SoCs for that very reason, because it integrates a lot of components into what would be the package meant for only the CPU. they might have the same voltage and amount of solder balls...

it isn't, the GPU itself has its own dedicated clock multiplier. what it does is it takes that clock multiplier variable and multiplies it with the internal base clock frequency to get its own clock frequency. and while it's true that the GPU does indeed share the CPU's L3 cache, it has no relation ...
