Re: Thinkpad for computer science major

I have a Yoga 3 Pro and support for Linux Mint is outstanding. This is probably not the model for someone in computer science, but for getting started with Linux it's superb. I've always heard that ThinkPad support of Linux was great, with very few exceptions. Maybe it's different since Lenovo took ...

Re: WTB: Old Sprint Smartphone

Hey, I've got an original Palm Pre 1. Bought it on release day and ported from AT&T to Sprint to get it. i have a couple of Touchstone wireless chargers too. $30 for the Pre in its original box, or $40 for the Pre and a Touchstone charger. It never got much use as I went running back to my (then) be...

Re: Thinkpad T400 on the International Space Station

When ThinkPads were made by IBM, there was a NASA/IBM "US-made" connection. Once a Chinese company bought the ThinkPad division from Big Blue the only way they would keep their role as primary supplier of pc's was to destroy the competition in both quality and price. That didn't happen. And Lenovo's...

Re: Are new cheap laptops really that bad?

I have a W500 as a desktop device but I wanted something more portable, and Linux was a must. I bought a cheap Acer ultra-portable and it was horrific. Lag, stutter, freezes, etc. It was $400 on sale at BestBuy. After three days of trying to make it usable I gave up and returned it. Didn't even get ...

I looked into getting a P50 not long ago, and during my research I came across this discussion about external monitors and Linux on the P50:

Ok, I removed everything except L enovo EasyCamera, Lenovo Service Bridge , and the Windows Driver Package . I left the Service Bridge in just in case I want to avail myself of Lenovo diagnostics/repair services, and anyway, what's life without a little whimsy? :) My Yoga runs perfectly, and no more...

Yoga 3 Pro, Windows 10 - Remove Pre-Installed Lenovo Programs?

Lenovo loves installing their own programs, some of which are superfluous as Windows 10 features control the same things. Occasionally they even interfere with the Windows equivalent. I'd love to remove all the Lenovo junk simply for peace of mind. So does anybody have any recommendations about whic...

My only reservation would be the paltry 4GB of RAM. For streaming videos I think a model with 8GB of RAM would serve you better.

Re: thinkpad X260 yoga spec out

I'm intrigued. Might be a worthy upgrade from my Yoga 3 Pro, especially with 16GB of RAM. I notice the shift key is larger than on my Y3P, one of the things that bugs me about my Yoga. I also see the return of the pointer nub and mouse buttons in addition to the trackpad. I'm not so keen on a smalle...

Re: WIN 7 to WIN 10 upgrade on W510?

I "upgraded" from Win7 to Win10 on my W500. I thought it would be the wise move for me as Win10 will be supported officially far into the future. My usage of my W500 is now minimal and I intend to pass it along to the person who replaces me next year on our local lake association board of directors....

Re: Space Shuttle using ThinkPads?

ThinkPads will be replaced by HP ZBook 15 G2 models, since HP is also NASAs general technology provider, and the US government loves HP^^ Considering that ThinkPads are now made by a Chinese company, I hardly blame NASA. And when you consider the recent hoopla about some of the junk Lenovo pre-load...

Re: After W10 upgrade scrolling does not work the way it did before

Since your ThinkPad is not officially supported by Windows 10 you may be out of luck for drivers that will enable old style scrolling with the trackpoint nub. Nobody is working on drivers for the X60. If there is nothing in the settings you can change to get this functionality back you may have to l...

Looks like Microsoft has caved and is restoring the full 15GB to legacy users. http://xenero.com.au/microsoft-caves-and-gives-15gb-back-to-legacy-onedrive-users/ Calling it "bait and switch" is not really fair as it's FREE. Re: Nov. 2015: Consumer Reports survey finds Apple most reliable laptop brand

This is hardly surprising. Apple laptops range from $900 to $2,500, whereas Windows laptops and Chromebooks start at ~$150. To be fair, reliability surveys/studies ought to compare products of comparable price ranges. The only study that did this systematically was SquareTrade's 2009 report, which ...

Re: Help buying a ThinkPad Yoga - questions about HDD and SSD

There are step by step videos on YouTube for changing the hard drive in various Yogas. Looks pretty straight forward. Not as easy as changing the hdd on, say, a ThinkPad W500, but not real tough either. Seems like there is a knack to removing the bottom case but the videos demo the technique well.

As a Linux noob, I'm using Linux Mint 17.2 with Cinnamon. It's Ubuntu-based and the desktop is close to basic Mac/Windows desktops. I'm running it on a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, and Lenovo has excellent Linux support. Everything works right from the install - no fuss/no muss.

Problem is X1 and X250 have soldered RAM. I know 1st gen X1 with 8GB exists, so 3d gen X1 with 16 might also exist. X250 has one slot and one module soldered, might be OK to put 16GB module in. X250 does not have soldered RAM. It has one slot, so 16 GB is the maximum. X1 Carbon 3rd Gen with 16 GB R...
