Re: T43p neither trackpoint, nor trackpad work...
Hi, I had a similar problem with my T43, in my case the touchpad worked fine but the trackpoint was intermittent. Both the touchpad and trackpoint are PS/2 pointing devices in the T43 and they are connected to a multiplexer which combines their signals into a single one that is input to the system, ...

Re: Thinkpad 390 sound failure
I have a T43 with similar issues except they're intermittent in mine and now I can only hear the right audio channel. In your case it looks like a hardware problem as you already tried adjusting software settings and such, the problem could either be your speakers or the audio subsystem on the board...

Re: T30 slot issue, looking for a rerepair
Can I just query, can you do this simply inside the memory bay without disassembling the laptop? I haven't yet seen whether there are solder joints on both sides of the board...? Thanks This guy on youtube did it without disassembling the whole laptop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwBeTAjtHcc I w...

Re: Share your experience with PCMCIA Ethernet cards
Good news :D I ordered the 3com card and instead of the BT card I got a 3CXFE575CT, which looks about the same but apparently has support for wake on lan. Performance is what I would expect from a 100 Mbit card, it tops at the maximum speed and just uses about 20% CPU when running at full load under...

Re: Share your experience with PCMCIA Ethernet cards
Thank you, that's the kind of info I needed to know. I'm aware the xJACK connector is fragile so I will keep that in mind when asking the seller. You made me remember that 16-bit PCMCIA cards do not support bus mastering which means all data that goes through the card needs to be handled by the CPU ...

Re: Share your experience with PCMCIA Ethernet cards
Yep D-Link hardware is usually decent, I own myself a D-Link DWL-G630 CardBus bg wifi card and it's rock solid, connections are stable and speed is just a little bit higher than the internal intel mini pci intel card. I guess I just bought an old oddball card :p Also my T43 freezed today when I was ...

Re: Editing Thinkpad R40 CPU Microcode for Dothan CPU support
Oh I'm sorry, I was mistaken, after all my area of expertise is the T series :p I read up on thinkwiki about the R40, there are models which use Pentium M CPUs and the 82855 chipset, and models which use Pentium 4-M CPUs and the 82845 chipset. If you have that model which supports Pentium M Banias c...

Re: Editing Thinkpad R40 CPU Microcode for Dothan CPU support
Hi, unfortunately what you wish to do is not possible, the ThinkPad R40 uses Pentium 4-M CPUs with the Intel i82815 chipset, and while the CPU socket is the 479 which is mechanically compatible with Pentium M Dothan CPUs, the system isn't because Dothan CPUs are designed to work with the 82855 or 82...

Share your experience with PCMCIA Ethernet cards
Hello all, I wanted to have an extra ethernet interface in my T43 and thought it was a cool idea to use the PCMCIA features of this computer, so this week I bought a D-Link DFE-670TXD because the integrated connector design looks robust and I read it works under Linux. When testing it I immediately ...

Re: T43 network IC replacement
Hey T43 Intel board reporting in with gigabit ethernet now! After buying a bench power supply and solder paste I finally decided to disassemble the ThinkPad and try to fix it, I noticed there was a short circuit to ground on a power rail (VCC1R2AUX) which feeds the BCM5751M, then I found out that th...

Re: T43 network IC replacement
Yes, you are right RBS, but that is not a datasheet, it's a product brief and doesn't tell me what I need, I already removed the chip from another T43 and I'm just waiting to buy the BGA solder balls but I don't know their diameter, I'm gonna go for 0.4 mm and hope that works. EDIT: I read the whole...

and gigabit Express cards are hard to find and expensive so I want to fix this thing

T43 network IC replacement
Hello all, I have been reading these forums for 3 years now but I finally decided to join, thanks for this service guys. TL;DR: will my T43 recognize the MAC address of the new BCM5751M or will it refuse to POST ? I have an intel based T43 which I bought non-operational and slowly repaired the mothe...
