Thanks, I just received the one that I ordered, and it seems to have both cables, so I will be trying that out shortly.

Re: A22m wired internet connection
I stand corrected. Once again, I was going by the notes I made from the tabook, or from the seller's description, when I bought this a couple of years ago, and they are at odds with the information in the MTM database posted here in our forum -- I should have double checked first. Well, I will try a...

A22m wired internet connection
I have an A22m on which I have a light version of Linux Zorin running. Here are the vitals: A22m 2628-P1U 15”XGA P3 800MHz 320 MB RAM 10GB HD OS: Zorin 5.2L (Light version) Manufactured: 4/2001 I'm pretty sure this machine did not have any built-in wireless. My memory is that the ethernet port worke...

Re: Power Adapter/Cord for The Thinkpad 760 ED
Thank you, RBS. I also found another one similar to the one Ray had suggested, for a much lower price (in fact, he had suggested I shop around). So I think I'll buy both and see if that will work.

Re: Power Adapter/Cord for The Thinkpad 760 ED
Thank you, Ray. So, the second cord that goes from the adapter to the wall outlet can be any of the standard cords from other later Thinkpads? In other words, the eBay item shows the adapter plus the cord that connects to the laptop. I am concerned about the cord that goes from the adapter to the wa...

Power Adapter/Cord for The Thinkpad 760 ED
Going through my legacy Thinkpads, I found a 760 ED in beautiful cosmetic shape, and I'm eager to test it. But because I moved last summer, I may have misplaced the power adapter and cord. I think the power cord should be plugged into the four prong input jack placed at the left end of the back of t...

Re: Remarkable Screen Quality on T30 and T23
axur-delmeria, I will try that. But I am fairly certain it is the original SXGA+ display mentioned in the tabook for the MTMs I have. The part number may be useful, however, if I need to replace the screen on the T23. dr_st, I suppose it's one of those senior moments. The irony is that I am a cognit...

Re: Remarkable Screen Quality on T30 and T23
I stand corrected on the T30 screen. I looked up the MTM in the tabook (2366-92U). That, too, is an SXGA+, like the T23 I mentioned in my original post, which, as Ray pointed out, had an SXGA+ screen. Well, no wonder these screens looked so crisp! I am not sure why I thought these were XGA screens. ...

Re: Remarkable Screen Quality on T30 and T23
Thanks you dr_st and RBS. Given your advice, I think a first step might be to add memory (maybe the full 2 GB, Kingston if one can find it) and see if the machine perks up a bit. The next in my collection of machines I need to update and inspect are the three A series Thinkpads: A22m, A31, and an A3...

Re: Remarkable Screen Quality on T30 and T23
Thanks, brchan. I will try the cable first.
According to Ray above, it has an SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) display. That is what the tabook says as well, so I was wrong in my initial description. And the bright screen, vibrant colours and crisp characters appear to bear this out.

Re: Remarkable Screen Quality on T30 and T23
Thanks, Ray. Very interesting information about the T23. I must have had the wrong information, quite possibly. It's a shame that the screen is now getting those lines. Perhaps I can fix it by re-seating the cable. We'll have to see.

Remarkable Screen Quality on T30 and T23
In my ongoing effort to update all of the Linux OSs on my strike force of Thinkpad machines (I'd like to call it an expeditionary force, being an old colonial, but somehow that seems a bit too ambitious), I have now got down to the T23s and the one T30 I possess. These all have 14.1" XGA screens, an...

Re: T40 Reboot button with Fan Error
Alex, I am not very clear about the reboot process you mention. When you reboot the T40 are you doing Ctrl-Alt-Del? Or are you hitting and holding the power button until the machine shuts off? I have experienced fan errors before on a T23 but that was clearly due to a problem with the fan. And I cou...

Re: Oldest Thinkpad you'd run Windows 7 on?
Personally, I don't mind the slow update process. I can let it run and use the other machines I have. Being retired, time is the one thing I have plenty of, so that's not a worry. I do have XP on some machines. It's OK, but with the various service packs it does take up a fair bit of space. So far, ...

Re: Lightweight Distro for my 600?
Neil, thanks for that information. I have not been following developments with Crunchbang, but I'm sorry to see it go.
Farro, I'll take a look at Gobang. I hope it is useful for running on some of the older machines.

Re: Lightweight Distro for my 600?
One flavour of Linux that has not been mentioned so far in this thread (I think ) is Crunchbang Linux. It works well on my T23s, and I think I may have put it on one of my 600 machines -- I haven't looked at them in a while, so I can't be sure. Anyway, it might be worth a try. It is a light OS at 79...

Re: Oldest Thinkpad you'd run Windows 7 on?
Quite. As you can see, I have an A31 and an A31p, and with advice and assistance from George (ajkula66), I managed to get older flavors of Linux (Peppermint and or Centos, IIRC) onto them. A bit of a struggle. You're right about video, of course. While these are great machines, they have their limit...

Re: Wireless Driver issues with a T43
Neil, thank you for this suggestion. I thought of the possibility, but the LAN had been working fine all day when I was updating a slew of Thinkpads. I could also get to the net using my "mainframe", a desktop Dell XPS 8700, although that was wired to the router. I should have checked my iPad which ...

Re: Oldest Thinkpad you'd run Windows 7 on?
Among the older machines, I have a few T43s and T60s and a couple of T60/61 Frankenpads with Windows 7 on them. In every case, Win 7 was already on these machines when I got them. One or two also had MS Office 2003 or 2007 on them. I have installed Linux Mint 17 or later versions on all of these mac...

Wireless Driver issues with a T43
As part of my ongoing updating of the Linux OSs on my numerous Thinkpads, I was working on a T43, with MTM 2668-43U, and with a 14.1” XGA display and a Pentium M (1.86G ) CPU. It has 802.1 b/g wireless. When I booted it up, with Linux 17, the taskbar wireless icon (the "staircase") showed a good con...

Re: Questions about Linux, Thinkpad T43 and hardware
For what it's worth, it is possible to put an R52 motherboard into a T43p chassis. I have such a Frankenpad, bought from one of our forum members about a year or so ago. It works fine, and the screen for the T43p, a 1600x1200 UXGA, is brilliant. There were some things that were slightly downsized, s...

Re: Power cord and adapter for T43 made for the UK
Indeed, I do have about ten to twelve IBM adapters and a couple of Replacement Adapters, several of the IBM adapters are two-prong, and they work very well. My concern was with the UK machine and whether there was a need for a separate adapter. Actually, what I had used with the UK adapter was an ex...

Re: Power cord and adapter for T43 made for the UK
I found two with 4.5A, and used one of those. It worked fine! Win XP came up and I think later tonight, I will do some updates. But then, I will install Linux Mint 17.2, I'm hoping it will work with this T43. If not, I can always go to an earlier version, like Mint 16. Thank you for the swift help, ...

Re: Power cord and adapter for T43 made for the UK
Thank you, RBS. So I can use any one of my power bricks which I used with US T43 Thinkpads, correct? My typical power supply says 100-240V for Input and 16V for Output, but does no say anything about wattage. These would still be OK, I take it.

Power cord and adapter for T43 made for the UK
I haven't posted here in a while, partly because I was busy moving this summer, and then unpacking -- too many books, stamp albums, and of course, Thinkpads! Re: Dual-booting Linux Mint 17 and Windows 10 on an R400
Addendum: The following post is a bit worrisome: The OP succeeded in creating a dual boot system with Linux Mint and Win 10, no idea what machine was used. Then, after a Win 10 update, grub disappeared and without a bootloader, neither OS could be accessed! He did get Windows accessed later, but not...

Dual-booting Linux Mint 17 and Windows 10 on an R400
Like many others, I have that infamous free Windows 10 offer sitting on my main desktop, a Win 7 Dell XPS 8700 with an i7 quad-core CPU. Since I did not want to install Win 10 on my "mainframe", but wanted to try it anyway, I picked up an inexpensive R400 in excellent shape and possessing a 160 GB S...
