Re: R50, no option for creating resue disks

If you can somehow get past the legalities of copyright, then perhaps you can then directly copy set of the Rescue Disk DVD disks. (From our T42 experience, it does look like that your copy of Product Recovery DVD set was burnt from a previous R50, hence your restored R50 cannot burn another Product...

Wow, thank you for your sharing! 1. USB 2.0 connected external hard drive: presume you are sharing your experience with this one, that USB 2.0 connection works! 2. USB 3.0 connected external hard drive: presume that this would not work, as Win'XP does not support USB 3.0 3. USB-C (aka USB 3.1 Gen 1)...

From our T42 experience (and previously phoning ThinkPad support hotline): upon purchase, your T42 did not come with any Product Recovery DVD. One last suggestion: Use an external program and format your HDD to delete any and all partition first. Hello, and welcome! If you suspect your X230 is dead, perhaps you should first make effort to ascertain that your SSD is in working order, otherwise it's likely that your X230 motherboard may be broken. All users make do with whatever USB ports they have on their computer; these are not user-upgradable.

ie: Your T440p came with USB 3.0 ports, and unfortunately cannot "upgrade" these.

Re: T500 doesn't start. Tried the usual power button tricks.

The easiest way to start repairwork is to have two (2) units of the same comuter... then you can swap parts in or out, to see if it works out! Usually only 1 of the 2 units gets repaired in the end; the other (broken) unit can serve as spare parts... It was dumped because it won't start. Most people...

1. "Mini fridge" may cause more problems than it would solve, since *after* you turn off your computer+fridge, there would be water condensation both outside and probably inside your ThinkPad!
