Re: X1 Carbon Gen 2 (X1C2) what are common problems?

We bought X1C4 and X1C3 instead. Specifically, we avoided buying the X1C2 (Gen 2, circa 2014) because of these major keyboard usability issues: 1) X1 Carbon Generation (X1C2) had no left, no right, and no scroll buttons on top of the TouchPad. Some ThinkPad users complained that you sometimes accide...

Review on X270

X270 had a very good review (4 stars out of 5), and was praised for its potential almost-24-hours max battery life. However, it did not get the Editor's Choice status. www.pcmag.com/review/352469/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-carbon-2017 That honor went to X1 Carbon (Generation 5), which got the Editor's Choic...

This is a wild guess: Try taking out your new RAM stick, and put it back in. Perhaps your new RAM stick is just *barely* touching your motherboard, such what: ~When machine is hot, the metal expands, and your RAM stick makes correct contact with motherboard (RAM "OK"). ~When machine cools off, the m...

And this is where things may get messy: Thinkpad repair depot may ask you to sign a waiver that Thinkpad would not be responsible for any data loss that might occur.
This is a "Just in case" type of document.

Please confirm that you did do a recent data backup for your X1 laptop?

Hi Nachumama, a big welcome to Thinkpads forum! 1. What model of X1 are you using? One of our Thinkpad's Machine No. is 20BS-CTO1WW, which is a X1 Carbon Generation 3 (circa 2015). Don't worry, just give us as much information as you can; we can figure out the rest! 2. To be quite honest, it sounds ...

Re: SSD PCIe, M-sata and T400 + T500

We just use a 2.5" SATA SSD for our T410; our auxiliary slot had been taken up by our WWAN (Mobile Broadband) card. The SSD speed is very good; more than good enough even for serious users demanding much faster speeds than HDD. Our SSD brand even came with 10-year warranty; it would (eventually) bec...

Thank you dr_st for clarifying that T420 had power built-in (ie: T420 had a more advanced iteration of eSATA), as compared to T410. We are daily using our T410, and are using a eSATA backup solution for faster data backup, and this requires an external source of power (which to be quite frank is a p...

Good news, the X1 Carbon technology is trickling into the other Thinkpad models! For example, we bought a X1 Carbon (3rd gen, 2015) and X250 (circa 2015 also). The X250 had partial carbon chasis to reduce weight. The X250 also had the same laptop case casing material as the X1 Carbon (3rd gen). Both...

We have a T410 laptop, and from our experience we will stick with official Lenovo batteries going forward.
