Re: HDD interposer for iSeries and 39X
that's a dang good price for a 7500! i usually see them listed at around $100 or more... sucks because I kind of want one, simply because I think they're absolutely hideous. and are apparently pretty decent specs-wise. hideous...but apparently quite functional. I got a great opportunity, I was actu...

Re: Storage and organisation of older ThinkPads?
I hope your hoarding gives you pleasure and doesn't cause your loved ones distress because it's the opposite for me. I regret keeping so many things I end up never using. It only robs me, and my loved ones, time, space and peace of mind. And a lot of money. My wife is a bit nervous, but luckily I h...

Re: HDD interposer for iSeries and 39X
if the i1200 interposer is the same as the inspiron 7500 one, why not just buy one for cheap on eBay? https://www.ebay.com/itm/255302190657 I browsed this offer and at a similar price I bought a complete Dell 7500 in my country and I paid about 2 dollars for delivery. I paid similarly for the Compa...

Re: T23 no image
I solved the problem. I replaced the cover together with the LCD matrix, I had a working one from a broken T22. As for the HDD diode, it turned out that the DVD drive has a failure and after replacing it with a working one, the diode works properly and the Laptop works properly.

Re: HDD interposer for iSeries and 39X
As for the Thinkpad iSeries1200, I bought an HP Compaq nc6120 laptop complete in unknown condition. Upon delivery, it turned out that the HDD connector is only theoretically compatible with the Thinkpad 1200, but I practically matched it with a knife... Now the thinkpad works up nicely. As for...

Re: HDD interposer for iSeries and 39X
perhaps the connection of the cpu is flaky or something. i forget if the 7500 was a P2 or a P3 but I know some of the dells had their chips on cards that could become badly seated. also there's probably a varta clock battery inside of it that's fixing to leak and ruin the whole thing so you should ...

T23 no image
After a long break, the T23 does not display the image every time. After turning on the laptop, there is usually no image, but the system starts normally and I hear the WinXP sound. After illuminating the matrix with a flashlight, there is no image at all, so it is not a problem with the inverter. A...

It doesn't matter who made these machines, they are very interesting due to their age.
I didn't even have a chance to see these models.

Re: Thinkpad a22e with windows 98, 2 questions
If you have installed Win 98 in the basic version then you need to upgrade to Win98SE.
The downside of Win98SE is that you have to install drivers for each USB device.
It is worth considering the installation of WinXP.

Indeed, plastics look brittle.
The inside of the plastics is painted similarly to Acer's.
Is the battery on the motherboard permanently fixed?

I had the same problem with the Thinkpad 570E. I had to reinstall the monitor driver with the correct resolution configuration.
Now it works properly.

Re: 570E
AFAIK the biggest issue with the 570/570E is the hinges getting weak.... and caps. I did a big write-up here: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=135202&p=871620&hilit=570e#p871620 incase you missed it. Yes I read this write-up, great job. Re: 570E
As for those T23 machines, the inductors (you call them coils) themselves don't fail. It's the miserable RoHS leadfree solder that fails. Remove all inductors that even remotely feel a bit loose, scrape off all the corrosion, from both inductor and its motherboard locations, then solder them back o...

Re: 570E
Thank you SolidPro for your help. It turned out that I had to reinstall the monitor driver with the appropriate settings. I got an unknown device in the device manager, I suspect that the docking station needs a driver. I'm happy with that the 570E holds up well for its age, which I can't say about ...

Re: 570E
I had a German market 570E back in 2013. It ran Windows 7 on a SSD and could actually load websites on Firefox, albeit it very slowly. I loved how thin it was, but unfortunately the chassis was just plastic with no reinforcement, so it would bend like a piece of paper. That was the main reason I so...

Re: T43 shuts down 15 minutes into XP install
Is the R chassis really better? I thought the T40 chassis is CFRP while the R50 feels a lower grade of plastic. I have an R50p suffering from Southbridge detachment and a newer Lenovo-branded unit that died from GPU failure. The R Series has stood the test of time better. They are larger, thanks to...

Re: T43 shuts down 15 minutes into XP install
I once had a similar problem installing WinXP on a Thinkpad R50E. When trying to install, it would hang at a random time.
It turned out that one RAM chip is defective. I installed the system correctly on one working RAM.

Re: HDD interposer for iSeries and 39X
Do what you think is best for you, but the dell OEM supply runs only $20 or so on ebay and every model from that time used them, just a good investment to get one or even a couple when they’re still cheap. I’ve got a few myself. Curiosity won out and I bought a power supply for this DELL. I plugged...

latitude chargers should work fine. This Dell was very cheap and probably for the power supply I would pay much more. I would just like to check in what condition this Dell is. I have a power supply from an old Compaq laptop with the same voltage, only it has a round tip like a Thinkpad. I wonder i...

HDD interposer for iSeries and 39X
Recently I found an auction to buy an interposer that I missed for thinkpad 1200. Unfortunately, the price was high, but in the description of the auction I found that this interposer supports laptops of other brands. Thanks to this information I bought a cheap Dell inspiron 7500 which has this inte...

Re: ThinkPad R30 Upgrade Path
I suggest you clean it well, replace the CMOS battery and put a new paste on the processor.
You can install a maximum of 2x512MB and the rest I would keep originally, because so old machine can not cope with the Internet.
This is the first Thinkpad R-series model and is more suitable for collections.

Unfortunately, there is no HDD. I have a question, can I install win98 on a thinkpad 390X and save drivers for the 570E on this disk. Will the HDD function properly in the 570E? Might be better to just format the HDD as FAT32, make it bootable, set up config.sys and autoexec.bat to load himem.sys a...

Oh, yes, bad batteries can cause all sorts of issues. On the *60 generation it has also been reported that running with a dead/faulty battery can cause lockups and glitches. The consensus seems that it is better to have no battery attached at all than one which is completely dead. Thanks for the in...

Re: Value of a NIB x31?
And do you pull out the batteries for storage? No, because I check those machines once a month. Usually they don't stay very long with me anyway and get sold on. Currently I have only 1 "spare" and another one will arrive end of this month. Before, when I lived in the States, I had a lot more, but ...
