Re: T490 add an extra drive

Hi Folks,

Is there any way to have any sort of second drive in a T490S?
I may buy a high capacity micro SD card...

I miss my X201T keyboard.
Hopefully I get use to the T490S soon.

Windows 10 PIN

Hi Folks, I just got a T490S. It's only slightly larger and thicker than my wife's X1 Carbon 2018 6th generation. Quite a step up from my first Thinkpad, an A30P! My recent computer is an X201T running Windows 7. Generally, all devices are turned off here overnight. I would like to be able to start ...

Hi,

So glad I asked, thanks for all the extra information!
The Lenovo warranty on the storage drive makes sense;
will definitely go with the 1TB from Lenovo.

Hopefully all this is sorted soon...

Hi, Well darn. Do you know if the 970 fit in the primary drive slot? I may be calling Lenovo and seeing of the X1 already shipped - if not, spec the 1TB primary from them. How about this one for the second slot? : https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAG9J8C25301&Description=m.2%20ssd%...

Thanks for the information!

She went for the high-res, 300nit panel, i7 and 16GB.
No WWAN, a second hard drive will go in that slot.

I did a good bit of research and think she will be pretty happy with it.
Less than half the weight of her current laptop!

2018 X1 Carbon display

Hi Folks, Tomorrow I'm buying a 2018 X1 Carbon for my wife. Am considering three displays: FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS anti-glare, 300 nits. Supposed to have best battery life. WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS anti-glare, 300 nits. High res might be easier for her to use for longer periods of time? Screen is probab...

Hi RBS, A little late to the party... I have five of the AC68 routers, including one of the t-mobile 1900s. There are a couple minor variations, but nothing major. I do live audio production and use these to connect to digital mixers, DSPs, etc. They work. Zero issues. Range outdoors has been over 2...

Re: optimizing my x61 tablet

Hi Ahmed, I had a 100GB OWC Mercury in my X61S, then a 160GB Intel 320 series. Pretty much any of the 2.5" SATA SSDs will work fine in the X61 series. My L7700/1.8GHz X61S has a 6300 wireless card and still runs warm. I would not try overclocking. I tried the SXGA screen and it was kinda cool, but s...

Re: Can anyone please tell me what the best 7mm SSD is?

Hi Person, What criteria are you using to define best? New SSDs are being announced regularly that are faster. Most current SSDs are pretty fast. My first priority is reliability, then low power consumption. Look for a 5+ year warranty. My laptop, modest price, current first choice is the Plextor M3...

Re: Need a fast 64gb sd card for my X61

Hi Y'all,

One reason to use a fast SD card is that some cameras require them to reach their fastest frame-rate shooting capabilities.

I don't know about the Nikon in question.

Hoodman and the Sandisk Extreme series cards have been consistently fast and reliable.

Hi Gaia,

Since the X301 doesn't have an ExpressCard slot, I see no easy way to do this.

Maybe there is an internal hack that could be done??

X220 - cool and quiet?

Hi Y'all,

My X61S is great little computer, but still runs pretty warm, so I'm looking at the X220.

Am I correct in assuming that the any X220 will be much cooler than my X61S?

With a modest work load, does an I7 run as cool and quiet as an I5?

Hi Edward, Ask the seller to do this: Pop one of the little self-adhesive covers off one of the middle screws on either side of the display. Remove the screw and look inside. (The screw and cover are easy to replace.) A) Standard screen will show a bit of silvery/steel covered threads. B) UltraLight...

Hi Erik, Thanks so much for the reply! I am quite careful with my laptops. During my testing period I found the 1400x1050 resolution very useful. And I'm a big fan if IPS screens. Hi Rose, "Doing the mod on a XGA-screen will eventually work on a SXGA+ screen later on, right?" This is correct. The Tablet IPS XGA and SXGA+ screens use the same connector. "Flashing the X61s with Middleton's BIOS will make it work with both standard XGA, X61T XGA as well as the T61T SXGA+ screen....
