X201 driver for FRU 43Y6553 I think it's a RealTek NIC card
Lenovo it seems has dropped their driver support page for X series Thinkpads prior to X220 or X230. I need the Win7 driver for FRU 43Y6553 REALTEK RTL8191SE MINI-CARD

Re: T430 boot drive question mSata
I have a bunch of thinkpads and my goal has been to have them all up and running with a hard drive be it a SSD or a spinner drive. These 64GB mSata drives work well for Linux or as test drives or temporary drives. I build my own desktops and I have a 500GB SSD and a 240GB SSD as well as a RAID 0 2TB...

You need to install a different driver. Either newer or older than the current driver you have installed. AMD has a driver uninstall tool for drivers.

Pull the bios battery for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Reset the bios to factory default settings and maybe hold the power button down for 10 seconds 10 times for good measure with the battery disconnected.

Re: How to build an advanced FrakenPad
At this point in the life of a Frankenpad. You either buy a Frankenpad or buy a T61 and mod it with Middleton bios add a nice wifi card, SSD and 8GB of ram with a T9300 or better CPU and call it a day. On a side note. I have a mint T61 that came with either a T8300 or T9300 CPU with perfect hinges a...

Re: Can Windows Vista be installed on an IBM Thinkpad R50e?
Vista was always mapping your HDD. I don't remember if they called it prefetch but it treated a computer as if it was some sort of network server. That is why it was brutal on SSD's. It was always reformatting HDD and everybody knows SSD's are not reformatted like a spinner drive.

Re: Can Windows Vista be installed on an IBM Thinkpad R50e?
Just a pro tip here. If you can get a ISO image of Windows Vista with SP2, you will like that version much better than anything prior to SP2. I think Vista being as bad as it was had SP3 but I could never find an ISO image with SP3. I had an original copy of Vista Ultimate and it was a disaster to i...

The only thing that would make an R500 with a Celeron processor seem or feel sporty is a Linux OS of any build or flavor.

Re: T430 boot drive question mSata
I am running my T420s right now on a 64GB Hynix Msata SSD right now. I have a Samsung Msata 64GB SSD as well as a couple 128GB Msata's. Just testing out how the mini pci-e slot works. My next step is the T430 that is sporting a 7mm 120GB SSD at the moment. Below is the 64GB Msata SSD in the T420s. I...

Re: T430 boot drive question mSata
From my limited testing the problem seems more to be the 9.5mm caddy vs the 7mm caddy. If I stack a standard HDD on top of a 7mm caddy, I think it may fit. Those Chinese ebay sellers are getting a premium for the hard red rubber rails. I plan to use the T430 as my file server machine mostly in the g...

Re: Power increase on T500?
The T500 has the 16X10 screen going for it. That is the selling point or should I say buying point. As far as CPU goes. I have the both the T9600 for T500 and T9900 for W500. At this stage of the T500 lifecycle, there really isn't much of a difference between the two CPU's considering it's 2017 and ...

Note that the T440 and later don't have an mSATA slot, but an M.2 (NGFF) slot. The M.2 standard is more complex than mSATA-- more infor can be found here: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/02/understanding-m-2-the-interface-that-will-speed-up-your-next-ssd/ The T440 has a 2242 size (22mmx42mm) M...

T430 boot drive question mSata
I have a i7 T430 and I have a 64GB mSata and a couple of 128GB Msata drives. With Windows 10 Pro is a 64GB drive good enough as a boot drive? I will be using a 750GB drive as my D drive. The Msata 64GB has read speeds mid to high 400's and around 150MB write speeds. I think the 128GB SSD is actually...

Try a 90w power supply. My educated guess is that you have Nvidia graphics which would require a 90w power supply for full performance.

So James Bond you are not? We Yankees often assume every male from the UK is Mi6 trained and skilled like Q. My guess is that you didn't properly seat some of your components while cleaning out your T410. Glad you are back up and running.

Re: Hacked Off!!! My Beloved R500...
To me it's not worth it to seek or desire a 9 year old laptop to function well in these modern times of 2017. With that said, I completely understand why someone would want a fully loaded vintage thinkpad from the T500 era. The cost of a really nice LCD panel is not worth the price of admission in m...

Re: Power increase on T500?
I have the T9600 (2.8Ghz) in a a couple of T500's and a T9900 (3.06Ghz) in a couple of W500's. The T9600 is a good upgrade option for your T500. The biggest difference would be putting in a SSD as suggested by several members in this thread. I would suggest considering a T410 or T510 for a little ex...

Re: Hacked Off!!! My Beloved R500...
If your signature is accurate. Your greatest loss was your 480GB SSD and 2TB HDD. If you considering a T500 with a 2.8ghz processor or a W500 with either the 2.8ghz or 3.06ghz processor you could have a nice backup to your L430. You do not necessarily need the 1920x1200 display. 1680x1050 is all you...

If it doesn't have discrete graphics card, 65w would be the correct charger. You can use either 65w or 90w. If you have a thinkpad that has discrete graphics and you use a 65w power supply. It will display a message saying your computer requires a 90w charger and that performance will be decreased w...

I was going to comment on another T430s thread but didn't want to hijack the other T430s thread. I just wanted to comment on the T430s with discrete graphics. I ran tests and sadly it seems the NVS 5200M is more gutless than the integrated Intel Graphics. Similar to the performance of the Nvidia NVS...
