Re: 755c PCMCIA Cover
I checked and tested the 755c cover, it's in fact 3 degree (tan3' is about 1/19), which is exactly what I have used. So it's easy to create one by adding two notches (holes of trapezoidal platform). https://www.tinkercad.com/things/57cfz0iHiEO-755c-pcmcia-cover?sharecode=70xMeXU0tx6Juoc0F_QnyqCBhPEE...

Re: 755c PCMCIA Cover
The side profile of the ThinkPad 75x/76x is not perfectly vertical; it has a tapered design (wider at the top and narrower at the bottom). To achieve a flush fit, you may need to set the angle between the faceplate and the latching rails to 85 degrees (a 5-degree offset from perpendicular) https://i...

A "Buggy" Restoration: The IBM PS/Note N45 sl and its Zenith Twin
I recently finished a restoration of an IBM PS/Note N45 sl, and the process was so surreal that I felt I had to document it. It started with a listing on eBay. Honestly, I hesitated. My "To-Repair" pile is already tall enough to be a structural hazard, and the new Tuff Shed I hauled home from Home D...

Re: Thinkpad 300 and Zenith 325L
just some quick updates: I got another ThinkPad 300 from eBay and surprisingly it works. The seller has no AC adapter, which is common, so I think I may have a universal solution from all such kind of cases. But before that, I need to rebuild the cmos battery. While the F6 gumstick battery is hard t...

Revive a GRiD 2270
Got a GRiD 2270 from eBay in rough condition and spent weeks to fix it... https://i.postimg.cc/CBdFcsdt/rough.jpg 1. Power Supply (AC-DC Adapter) Easy, let's 3d print one. There is a 10k resistor between the positive pin and center pin. Input could be 8.5v to 12.5v, so a usb-c pd trigger with 12v wo...

Re: 700C Rebuild Ideas
before slice and send it to the printer, adjust the angle to 40~50 degrees in the prepare phase. for the model, it allows you to adjust it from 3 different directions, lean it and leave the longer side on the printing plane and general upside down to minimize the support. given a strong enough print...

don't print that flat, hinge part would be easily broken from joint of different layers. try align it diagonally, even for the proof of concept, like 40-50 degrees depending on the supporting.

Re: accidentally flipped a DOM module - now IDE is dead
You may check the fuse or 0/000 resistor near the IDE first, if everything looks good, check the 5v IDE power rail by 41(5v logic)/42(5v motor)/44(type ATA) pin. Blown fuse or 0hm resistor could be simple. If you cannot get the 5v, trace back and check if there is any mosfet malfunctioned, or if it ...

Re: Selectadock III Graphics Card Compatibility
SelectaDock III supports PCI version Voodoo 5 5500 which is rare, I'm afraid yours is AGP version.
You can take a look at your card and check if there is an "L" shape without gold finger, if so, it's a common AGP version.

Re: 700C Rebuild Ideas
You have the best 3d printer which supports cf-nylon/cf-petg, so I assume the ultimate solution is to rebuild the whole case. However, that's definitely pricey. I have a non-working 700 (no c) in bad shape, maybe I can start with that after I wrap up current working of grid 2270. BTW, we need a dedi...

Re: 700C Rebuild Ideas
I tried, in short, for the right side (next to the ps/2 mouse port), there is no room for enhancement. For the left side (next to the fax/modem port), you may do something but it still does not help a lot. My 2c is to sand it and then apply 3-4 layers of fiberglass mesh with glue. Plus, the hinge st...

Ok, so I've attempted to rebuild my lid and for this attempt I'm using Araldite. As you can see I've tried to get the bases back into original positions. Re: ThinkPad 350: hinge and shell repair
Your image links seem broken? I was using SolidWorks before, but I realize that designers might not have such powerful tools and they might use some really primitive ways to build the model back to 30 years ago. So I decided to rebuild everything in TinkerCAD using only basic shapes. It’s been an it...

Yea, cuz I found it's the easiest way. I guess it can be opened and closed for thousands of times before it's worn. Or, you can easily 3d print another clip when it stops working. I have lot of failed attempts in 3d printing some support, i.e. for the missing part, better to 3d print a rough piece based on good one and then apply the epoxy or glues, but I switch to an easier solution with epoxy supported by blutack or plate and tapes. Watch out for the display shell breaking....

[warning: text generated by GenAI  ] My collection of five ThinkPad 350-series laptops (including the PS/Note 425 and 350c) is facing a common, critical issue: the poorly designed and prone-to-failure hinges. My initial structural fixes were only temporary, failing quickly upon use. I realized ...
