Windows 8.1 may be the best OS for mechanical HDDs

I recently got my hands on a T520 4240-49U with a missing keyboard in exchange for the FHD TN panel from my dead W530. Say what you will about the trade but I think it was a good deal. When I got it, I dropped in 4 gigs of ram (upping to a total of 8gb) and a 6 row from my T430 that I swapped a 7 ro...

Their review sample had a Wireless WAN card which most likely is missing from yours. https://i.ibb.co/6csV7hYc/WWAN-Card-placement.jpg You shouldn't worry about it though as it was an optional extra. The review sample also has RAM in this slot https://i.ibb.co/FLfbHjK0/T440s-RAM.jpg Which in the yea...

Re: Looking for a CMOS battery for Lenovo X1 tablet gen 3

Ah I see, I apologize then. I was not aware of how elusive and expensive the X1 Tablet's cmos batteries actually were and how small they were. I personally would buy the cheapest battery available, but I completely understand that buying a trusted battery with cables already soldered onto them would...

Re: Looking for a CMOS battery for Lenovo X1 tablet gen 3

Ehhh, yeah you're right, you can do that. But ???????? How did you get that a cmos battery with cables costs $10? Since you are trying to swap the connectors anyway, it doesn't matter what you buy, just buy the cheapest one with cables and a connector. You can get a pack of 10 for under 6 dollars. I...

Yes I have read. Actually, you know what, I'll record a video of me swapping connectors. https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/15oW-UTnQd_5fVwZq6rT9G5D97GlozFtV As you can see, I to swapped a fat connector from a dead battery onto a good cmos battery with originally a slim connector. Re: Reduce Contrast on T490 Screen?

I don't think adjusting contrast will do anything. I'm willing to bet that the T490 you were given has a low quality display and that's why dark areas don't look good. But if you do want to adjust contrast, go to Control Panel, select "view by large icons" instead of "category" on the top right of t...

Since you are using Windows 11, You can go into the windows settings -> Bluetooth & devices -> Touchpad -> Taps -> and turn off the tap gestures like "Tap with a single finger to single-click" (what you wanted)

Re: XP T60 randomly stops seeing my wifi network.

Try updating the wifi drivers and updating to SP3. IIRC SP2 doesn't support WPA2 very well and the drivers that came with the T60 restore disks were not great. If that doesn't work...Maybe check the wifi cards in them? Perhaps a specific wifi card is being especially temperamental with your wifi rou...

Re: E14 Gen6 Loading Indicator

Limiting your charging to 80% will keep your battery healthy for a longer period of time. For example: (This is all hypothetical) If right now you get 4 hours of battery life starting from 80%, you may be able to get 3.5 hours in 2-3 years But if you charged to 100%, you may now get 5 hours, but you...

Welcome to the forum!

That is normal behavior.
The indicator turning white means that the battery has reached full charge.
Since the battery is no longer allowed to charge to 100%, it no longer turns white.

Re: Thinkpad T460s and Linux Ubuntu

Nope. You don't have to worry. Just make sure you have all your personal files backed up. ThinkPads play quite well with Linux and the only thing I know of that is on Windows and not on Linux is Lenovo software. Those are covered by built in Linux packages though so you don't need to worry. Though a...

Re: My ThinkPad fleet and my shiny-plastics-fix hack

Well a regular R5x (non-e) with ATI gpus can support UXGA, but the good thing about the R51e is that it doesn't have any southbridge or GPU issues like its contemporaries.

Also, have you rebuilt the T30 battery? 1 hour of charge on such an old battery truly is impressive.

Re: Yoga 11e worth it.

True, C2Ds can't beat Celerons in terms of power efficiency.
But I don't think 4 cores really matter when two of those 4 cores can't match a single C2D core.

I don't think there is any reason to get a laptop with a Celeron older than Tremont.

Sick! My favorite chassis design is the R5x and the R51e has to be one of the most stable of the R5x series.
Shame that it can't support a SXGA+ or UXGA display though.

Welcome to the forum! and no, your post was not a bother. For solid state drives, you can go with a PATA adapter to either M.2 or mSATA and get an SSD of the same form factor. There is an option to get a CF card adapter but those are quite finicky with windows. For the shell, aside from getting anot...

I already know that the keyboard is removable on it's own but I'm not sure if the screws will line up or if it will blow any fuses.

Re: T60 Upgrading Advice

Besides, the T60 can't boot from NVMe SSDs and there isn't even a slot for it on the system board. There is an expresscard slot that you can put an expresscard to nvme adapter into. You can use some software like Clover to allow for NVME booting. It's very impractical and not great for first timers...

That seems to be a password.
Go to the security tab and see which passwords are enabled.
I'm guessing it is a supervisor password which can't be easily removed on a T440p.

IMO SATA is the better option. It is plug and play, and you don't need any adapter or software. The price will depend on if you are buying used or new, the capacity that you want and where you are. Here is my list of capacities and prices I've paid in USD: (I only buy used sorry) Used: 100-128gb: $1...
