Re: Win7 Update hangs
Hi RRHODY, I just won this fight today on my third machine this month(!) The link Puppy sent you to is a good place to start. I see you've got Win7 Pro 64 bit, so the direct download link for KB3020369 is: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46817 You would get here if you scrol...

Re: install Win7 on mSATA (Win7 currently on HDD)
Cool. Thanks! I'm going to give it a try...
Edit: Half an hour later, I'm done! I changed boot order in the BIOS (mSATA above both HDD0 and HDD1), and when I plugged the HDD back in it was assigned drive E. Awesome help! Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply Cigarguy!
One more question: I've just installed the mSATA drive, but haven't 'Allocated' it in 'Computer Management'. Do I have to?

install Win7 on mSATA (Win7 currently on HDD)
I want to install Win7 on an mSATA drive I just installed, and have it as my boot drive. I'd also like to keep the 320 GB HDD for storage. But can I just install Windows on the mSATA? Won't I have clashing OSes (i.e., two C drives)? I'm just not sure how to go about this... Pull the HDD, install Win...

Re: WiFi Disappeared
I don't often run on ethernet, so I don't think that was it... I wonder if System Update is more adept at updating wifi drivers (i.e., turns the adapter off after downloading and before installing the update)? I think that's how I've usually done it.

Re: WiFi Disappeared
Glad you got it sorted out. I figured the same thing as you--update failed because the wifi adapter was in use. For the life of me, though, I don't remember that happening before; and I've updated a fair few wifi drivers...

Re: WiFi Disappeared
Just got it working again... Here's what I did:
Go to Device Manager, right-click wireless, click Properties.
Go to Driver tab, click Uninstall.
Driver was automagically installed thereafter (the driver was found in 'pre-configured folders' or something like that).
For what it's worth,
Paul

Re: WiFi Disappeared
Before you do anything too drastic, another question: do you have Windows Update set to Automatic? I don't, but it just told me there were updates available. One of them was for my Intel Ultimate-N 6300 wireless adapter. I accepted the update, but after the reboot it told me that the wireless driver...

close lid power switch location
Does anyone know where the switch is that triggers hibernate / standby when you close the lid on the X201? Mine is starting to act up... Close the lid and lights flicker and go off. Or stay on. And I just moved my lid / display with my computer running and it hibernated... Anyway, if anyone knows ab...

Re: X201 temperatures, turboboost.
My X201 idles around 50*C (similar to yours), but I have never seen it over 73*C. Mind you, I'm not putting it through the paces that you seem to be! I also run TPFC to keep a low-speed fan always running because I work in a hot, humid climate and I'd like to keep temps down if possible. That may sk...

TPfc.62 new sensor just appeared
I've been running TPfc.62 on my X201 for about three years. I just got a new battery. I have run it through one cycle and am halfway through a second (~ 8 hours as it's a 9 cell battery). Anyway, just now the fan ramped up to 5500 rpm. A new 'sensor' has shown up in TPfc: 2 aps 98*C (0x79). I found ...

From the FAQ : tpfc_v062.zip latest common version of TPFanControl for Windows 8 / 7 / Vista / XP, 32/64bit, Celsius/Fahrenheit, service/non_service [bold in original] I would like to gently suggest that you actually read FAQs before installing something that gets down to the level of machine contro...

thinkpad fan control (tpfc) on x131e?
I've seen a few people here running TPFanControl on their x120 / x121 machines. Does anyone run it on an x131e? If so, which version (v062 or v063 [special version]), and what settings? I checked ThinkWiki, but I didn't see the x131 listed... Thanks for any advice,
Paul

Re: going from RAID1 to JBOD
No, I have the data backed up to a third drive. I just want to use the two disks that had been in a RAID1 arrangement in a different way (i.e., on their own, but with exact duplicates of the data; no RAID mumbo jumbo as obviously I'm a bit confused about how it works... )

going from RAID1 to JBOD
I'm asking this here because I tend to get the best answers around here! I have a dual HD enclosure that supports RAID0, RAID1, JBOD and BIG. Initially, I had it set to RAID1. Then I heard disk noises... So, having heard horror stories about RAID arrays getting messed up, I decided to try to split t...

Right now the machine is in a box in pieces. Trying to decide what to do with it...

locks on folders?
I just downloaded pictures from my camera and when I went to view them in Windows Explorer I found a number of folders have locks on them! Not all folders--only about 60% of the child folders in "My Pictures"--but quite random and quite unexpectedly. I seem to be able to open them all, but I'm a bit...

Re: Another little prog for power management
IBM_ECW can switch clock frequencies at a very fast pace, to change that behavior change the 'Update Every' setting in the config menu, default is 200ms, I like mine at 100ms. Since IBM_ECW update the CPU freq so fast, it may pick up on peaks in usage you otherwise wouldn't notice, to stop this beh...

I have chosen not to mention the odd text field behavior as it sort of keeps you on your toes and reduces the chance of making a mistake. I'm giving this little guy a whirl. It took me a while to figure out how to get it running... On the Configuration window that first comes up after running IBM_ECW.exe I changed "CPU > Default state:" to Automatic; clicked "Add" to add another set of parameters (1200 MHz | 988 mV | 50%), and then "S...
