Re: T460s is dead - suggestions

I was going to say I can't find the reset pinhole but I just did! Shame Lenovo did not put a sign next to it. Hopefully it won't happen again but if it does, I will certainly try this.

Re: T460s is dead - Solved

As was suggested by @RealBlackStuff, I took out the two batteries and the cmos battery, pressed power a few times to discharge any capacitors, and then reassembled. And then it worked!! So many thanks to everyone who commented. Most difficult thing was getting the screws out that were holding the ba...

Re: T460s is dead - suggestions

Would a dead motherboard battery kill a machine?
I thought (incorrectly?) that it just kept the clock ticking and on startup that would be wrong?

Re: T460s is dead - suggestions

Thanks for this. I did try another outlet. No success. Only have the one charger but even if charger was broke, should still run due to battery. Is there a link on how to remove the internal battery on a T460s? I just do not understand how a laptop can work one day and then absolutely nothing the ne...

T460s is dead - suggestions

Hello, I have a T460s. It is older than 3 years and less than four. It is out of warranty. I set the battery saver to on as it is normally run from the mains. It is not used everyday and was last used over the weekend to do a windows update and possibly a lenovo update. It is has had a BIOS update r...

T460s - BIOS - Intel AMT

Hi, I recently purchased a T460s and downloaded the user manual. This shows the settings in the bios, one of which is Intel AMT (under Config). But in the bios on my machine, there is no entry for Intel AMT. I raised a service request with Lenovo support and was phoned within a few hours which was g...

Rescue and recovery

I know that R&R is not popular on this forum but .... I set it to backup to a NAS unit and it worked several times. Now, I can list backups but if Itry to delete or create new backup, I get, within a minute, "the backup failed because the destination network location can no longer be reached". I hav...

Re: rescue and recovery 4 - delete backup

rescue and recovery 4 - delete backup

I do not back up that often. I have 4 backups listed - 3 named "scheduled" and one with the date and time.
If I try to delete a backup - the earliest scheduled - then I get a small hourglass dialog, CPU usage of 50% and so far it has taken 3 hours.
Is this normal?

DVD unit problems

New T61, windows XP.DVD write unit. It will not read a DVD-R disk, written elsewhere which is readable by other machines I have tried it on. If I write a CDRW disk, then perfectly readable on the thinkpad but on any other machine, it is slow, literally 3 minutes per directory entry. Have emailed Len...

T61 - DVD playback

I have a new T61, NVS140 graphics, 2GB memory, 1440x990 screen. Play back of DVD movie via winDVD is dreadful - jerky, audio not synced. Graphics driver is latest according to Lenovo site. Previous Thinkpad was a T41 (unfortunately burgled) that played DVD perfectly well with ATI graphics and the ne...

VMWare installing windows XP on thinkpad

I saw a previous thread here about creating a bootable XP cdrom from the partition on my thinkpad. I followed the instructions and have created said cdrom at SP2. I now want to install it on a virtual machine. I have created it and when I power it up with the cdrom in drive, setup starts. I get a st...

JD - thanks for the advice of chucking the whole lot. The problem is that it did work with the original drivers. Its only the updated drivers that do not work.
I am wondering whether to use an external 3COM PC card that I have. I would just rather use the kit that came with the PC

Apologies for being a liitle vague. When I upgraded in July, the machine would barely reboot, so rolled back then. Could not then connect to hotspot and have at last got round to connecting wirelessly at home. It no longer works though when I first bought the T41 last year it did connect. So I thoug...

Unable to connect on wireless

I have a T41 with a 2100 3B wireless adapator. I used to be able to connect to my wireless router which has WPA set with no problems. I noticed that if I was connecting to a public hotspot I would be able to connect in about 10% of the attempts. So, using softwareinstaller, I decided to upgrade my d...
