Re: Possible to use 8GB RAM in a X200
Just installed 8gb in my X200s, works fine. I got the cheap Transcends at NewEgg, $360 shipped for the pair.

Re: About to buy an X200s, Need input on config + many questions
I just got an X200s and am very happy with the configuration. 1) My personal opinion is to get the cheapest drive available (160gb 5400pm), and then buy an aftermarket drive that you really want for much less than what Lenovo is charging. There are literally dozens of options, just check http://www....

Ditto the X200 Ultrabase. It's got DisplayPort, plenty of USB ports, second battery charger, on/off button, and (optional) Blu-ray. Perfect docking station that can travel if needed.

Re: T400 - Setup with Intel X25-M SSD and Windows 7
1) Turbo Memory - yes, you should disable Turbo Memory. Two ways to do that. You can install the driver, and just select disable from the Turbo Memory interface. Better option would be to just remove the Turbo Memory module (easy to do, just remove the keyboard) so you don't even have to install the...

Turbo Memory works just fine with Windows 7. I'm using 4GB Turbo Memory in User-Pinning mode on my Thinkpad T400s. Definitely works. Just use the latest drivers from intel.com.

At < 2.5 lbs, the Thinkpad X200s is lighter than most netbooks on the market (except the new Sony Vaio X-Series). I think it's the ultimate netbook killer.

Don't know when, but most retailers have a product page for this drive and a "notify me when available" button. Try froogle (google product search) "SSDSA1MH160G201".

The T400 optical drive fits fine in the T400s (I've tried this myself). As mentioned above, the bezel is slightly different but you'd never notice unless you had both to compare. Don't know about Ultrabay battery or HDD adapter though.

Re: X200s with Celeron M 723
Celeron M 723 is one of the three budget CULV CPU's Intel just released. It's 1.2ghz with 1mb cache. In most situations, it's only slightly slower than the Core 2 Duo SL7100. Lenovo will probably offer X200/X200s models with the other two CULV CPU's (1.3ghz Pentium SU2700 and 1.4ghz Core 2 Solo SU35...

Re: X200s and 3G connection
The X200s (at least the LED models for sure) don't have the antennas for WWAN so even if you installed a 3G mini-PCIe card, there would be nothing to connect it to. Only regular X200 and X200 Tablets have the antennas.

Odds of DOA are pretty low. Just remember to buy from a reputable seller (good feedback, good scores) and pay with a credit card. I would just stick with the 2.5" version.

Re: X200 with Intel 160GB SSD v. Lenovo 128GB SSD v. 160GB 7200
When you get your computer, use the Lenovo utility to create a set of recovery DVD's. Install the new SSD, then boot from your recovery DVD's to load the original factory install onto the SSD. If you don't have an optical drive, it's a little trickier. You'll need to get Acronis or other disk utilit...

Re: X200 with Intel 160GB SSD v. Lenovo 128GB SSD v. 160GB 7200
The Lenovo 128gb is probably a Samsung MLC which is a very good drive (I have 3 of these). The Intel 160GB is definitely faster, but not worth the extra cost in my opinion. You'll notice a huge improvement going from the 160GB 7200rpm to the 128GB SSD, but you probably won't notice any real world di...

Re: x200s vs x301
It's very easy to replace your drive with an SSD. One screw holds the HDD tray in. Pull that out, and it's just 4 small screws holding the drive in the tray. The Intel 160GB is a great choice, but I would also recommend the Samsung 256GB for about the same price. The Samsung 128GB is also a great dr...

Unfortunately, there's no way to specify which FRU/screen you get in your X301. There was some discussion about this previously and if I remember correctly, all X301 screens have the same FRU even if they come from different manufacturers.

Ditto the previous comments. If you want the best display (best viewing angles, contrast etc.,), go with the X200 Tablet. If you want the best battery life (i.e. 6+ hours of real use) and the lighest laptop, go with the X200s. But keep in mind that the X200s comes standard with the higher resolution...

The Transcends work fine if they're paired. I've installed probably several dozen of the 2GB DDR2 Transcends in various Thinkpads (including X300) over the the last couple years. If you're running 2x2GB, might want to go straight to Vista x64 or Windows 7 x64.

Re: What are/would be signs of SSD failing?
Unfortunately, there really isn't any way to know if your SSD is about to die. Only clues of a malfunction might be your drive size suddenly shrinking (reported with some of the earlier ASUS EEE PC SSD's) or drive errors reported by your OS. But I wouldn't worry about it anytime soon.

If you don't need more than 64GB, go with the Samsung SLC for $175. If you can afford $700-$800, I'd go with the Samsung 256GB MLC rather than the Intel 160GB MLC. The Samsung is the new speed king and hasn't had any reports of fragmentation issues like the Intel. The Samsung 128GB MLC is also a goo...

Probably too late in your situation, but next time before you wipe your original Lenovo installation you can backup the C:\SWTOOLS and C:\DRIVERS folders to a CD or USB drive. Then after you install Windows, go to control panel -> device manager and for any items that Windows couldn't install, simpl...

Short answer...if you know how to clean install Windows, then yes, it's very stable for regular day-to-day use. I've been running a clean install of Windows 7 on my X301 for over a week now and haven't had any BSOD or program crashes. However, initially I did try upgrading from an existing Windows V...

RF2 sounds like a refurb. I think Lenovo refurbs are fine. I bought an X61s from the Lenovo outlet store last year and it looked like brand new. It's probably no worse (and probably better) than buying used or 3rd party refurbs from ebay.

Are you running the original Lenovo install or a clean install? Every time I get a new Thinkpad, the first thing I do is wipe the drive and clean install Windows and only the most critical Lenovo drivers and utilities. I haven't had any issues with random freezes.

Not slow at all. Don't under estimate the contribution of the SSD to overall system performance. For the applications you list above, I'd say my X301 is noticeably faster than my previous T61p which had a 7200RPM drive and a 2.5ghz processor.

Official Lenovo refurbished Thinkpads have a model number ending with the letter R (e.g. 7668CTR). There should also be a white sticker on the bottom of the laptop that says "refurbished". To check warranty of your unit, enter the first 4 digits of the model number and the full serial number here: h...
