Re: Is image-loading warning still enforced in the forum in 2019?

The rule is paradoxical. This is the only computer forum I am aware of that has a rule like this in place. Pictures and image posting are natural, especially when talking about new builds, screen grabs, etc. Computers are a multi media platform. The idea that you cannot capitalize on this in 2019 i...

Re: modern laptops with "trackpoint"

Everything is messed up. Most people don't really care about keyboard and mouse ergonomics unless it's really subpar. The few that do are not united enough to make the manufacturers care.

2. USB 3.0 connected external hard drive: presume that this would not work, as Win'XP does not support USB 3.0
XP supports USB 3.0 controllers just fine if there are drivers for them, and in any case any USB 3.0 peripheral is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me with the SD card reader on my X220. After a fresh installation of windows 10, the card reader does not appear. There is no 'memory' device nor 'USB mass storage' in device manager. The card reader is PCIe, not USB, so you shouldn't look for 'USB Mass Stor...

What you want should be possible.

I am not familiar with anything called LENOVOBUS.SYS. A screenshot of the exact error would help.

Does the problematic machine start OK in safe mode?

Still better than Lenovo 6-row layout where PgUp/PgDn and Home/End are on opposite sides of the keyboard I personally don't feel this way, but I understand why some people would. There are advantages to keeping PgUp/PgDn next to Home/End, but also advantages to having it next to the arrows. And the...

Freaking VGA in 2019, wow. I wonder which niche they are aiming for.

Keyboard is atrocious of course, with navigation keys only accessible via Fn+arrows. That's nice for a secondary option, but not when it's the only way.

Also consider a W530, especially with a classic kbd swap. Ivy Bridge is significantly faster and more power efficient than Sandy Bridge. This. Even though I am not sure how "significantly" it is, it still allows you to push one generation ahead with virtually no losses, only gains (assuming you do ...

Couldn't find T430s schematics, but at least on T420s pinout, it looks like all the signals related to slice battery in the docking connector (DOCK_SBAT_PWR, DOCK_BAT_GATE, SLICE_EJECT_LEVER, etc.) are not connected to anything. I would expect the T430s to be the same, so - no slice battery. :(

Re: T430s slice battery

Well, for sure it won't align well with the chassis, because T430s docking connector is further back compared to T430/T530. The bigger question is whether the docking connector pin-out has slice battery support. It's theoretically possible that they didn't add that on the slim models, because they m...

It has been proven countless times that a defective touchpad causes the trackpoint to misbehave as well. Disconnect the touchpad cable (which will disable it and the bottom two buttons), then check if the trackpoint buttons (under keyboard) behave normally.

I don't recommend using Windows XP unless that T60 doesn't connect to the Internet and no USB drives are plugged into it. XP is very outdated and probably has unpatched security vulnerabilities. CPUs rarely run at 100% for day to day whatever, so that's not the bottleneck. You might be surprised how quickly the modern web can bring a Core 2 Duo to 100% (both cores). Your bottleneck is the bus/ram speed. It's 667mhz. It's most noticeable on things like web surfing, loading pages. This may b...
