Re: T480 battery questions

61+ are rate 48Wh while 61++ are rated 72Wh. Since both are apparently the same physical size, it is not clear why anyone would need/want a 61+. Probably that's why production moved all the way to 61++. Traditionally, Panasonic batteries have been superior in longevity to other brands, but this can ...

regarding ThinkPads? no, there isn't any at the moment.
So why is it surprising that every Thinkpad that is prone to Thunderbolt issues has an Intel CPU?

And how do you "dump" Intel if you want Thunderbolt on your Thinkpad?

NO affected Thinkpad has AMD CPU.
Are there any systems with AMD CPUs and Thunderbolt 3?

They don't attempt to hide it? Then why does no one know who is responsible for this site? There is zero transparency when it comes to this. They don't attempt to hide this in the sense that they are very open about their extremely negative opinion on Islam, and they announce right off the bat that...

Bill's personal opinion aside... just because something is "Anti-Islam" doesn't mean it's wrong. Yes, "The Religion of Peace" has an agenda, a very obvious one, and they don't attempt to hide it. Yes, they bring up and discuss things that, in line with their agenda, will show the bad effects of Isla...

I think every Fan Error can be bypassed with Esc. It's not a generally good idea to run without a working main fan for more than a few minutes, though.

Re: CPU upgrade to W510 Question

When you install W10, apparently it takes ages to install all its updates, while running near 100% CPU. However, instead of upgrading W7 to W10, do a complete, fresh install from scratch. If installing Win10, one should always install the latest milestone release - this way there are fewer updates ...

Re: X41t screen - where to use it up.

Well, if it is of any comfort to you, I'd say that even if your X32 had the IPS mod, a T60 with 15" Flexview is a better system for retro games in every way. It's much more powerful with its dual core CPU, and the X32's compatibility isn't better except maybe for Win9x, if you need some very specifi...

Just install Lenovo Vantage, and let it bring whatever system foundation package it needs. After that, enable Battery Bar through Lenovo Vantage, make sure it works, then, if you want, uninstall Lenovo Vantage. The gauge will remain, although you won't be able to tweak/access certain settings.

I would avoid installing the full "unofficial service pack", as it can actually cause more problems and is essentially impossible to remove later.

A better approach is installing some specific things that might be needed, starting from nusb.

Can you explain why? Like be more specific?

The touchpad on recent Thinkpads is definitely closer to the Macbook touchpad than the one on the **30 series. And yet you love the Macbook touchpad, love the one on T530, yet hate the one which is sort of "in between". Why?

Yes, my T60 has the X1400 and I'm half-surprised it still works after all these years. The ones I hate are the ones without physical buttons, where you just press on the touchpad. There's nothing wrong with that layout in theory and I love my Macbook's touchpad, but the execution on the Thinkpad is, in my opinion, terrible. Indeed no touchpad after *30 series has physical buttons, bu...

Re: XP games on CD/DVDs

You just need to create a CD image and mount it to a virtual drive. Many of the tools mentioned in this thread can do just that. Daemon Tools usually works well and unless your CDs are copy-protected, you won't need anything else.

How much newer? I haven't owned anything in the 40-60 generation, but the TP25/X1C 5th gen touchpad (same generation as T470) is much better than the one on T430 and below.

Re: Change from t460s to carbon 6th gen?

Well, the 6th gen X1C uses 8th gen Intel i5/i7 CPUs, which are quad-core and not dual-core, so that can be a big improvement indeed. It is far less likely that 20GB vs 16GB will make a bigger difference, unless you have workflows which are inherently memory-bound.

Re: XP games on CD/DVDs

For protected games, I found that Alcohol 120 is good for making images compatible with the protection (SafeDisc/SecuROM/StarForce), but it's not free. CloneCD should also be able to do it. Not sure if ImgBurn can. In any case, you sometimes need to find the specific settings in the image-ripping to...

If Windows is not complaining that it's not genuine after a week of using it, it's usually a good sign.

If the machine originally had a Win7 license, it's probably had the free upgrade done to it at some point.

Re: Long and winded migration from x200 to x201

However sooner or later the CMOS battery is going to die on you. When you go to replace it the system will prompt you to reset the BIOS date and time. You won't be able too. The laptop at that point will become a door stop until you change the BIOS date and time. What if you replace the CMOS batter...

Don't remove the CMOS battery until you get some answers from someone here who is more experienced with these issues. If there is a hidden password there somewhere, it may lock you out of the PC completely.

Very nice!

It would be interesting to get a full list of new settings unlocked with this update (I assume most of them are in the advanced menu). I think that **30 series Thinkpads have 'permanently disable' option for AMT in the stock BIOS as well. How is the "ME Disable" here different?

Re: Upgrading X220/X230 to FHD 1080p

The T420/430/420s/430s have dual-channel LVDS, which means they support FHD (and actually even QHD). The X220/230 were only ever offered with HD screens, so the LVDS is single channel, and cannot support FHD resolution. Thus, to get FHD screens, one of the DisplayPort outputs has to be 'stolen'.
