Re: X230 - how to identify IPS panel online?

I'm trying to find an x230 with i7 processor AND an IPS screen (and preferably backlit keyboard). Is there any way to identify a presence of IPS panel from, say, a combination of specs? If it was a Topseller model (model code ending with U for US and G for global models), then the Ltwbook Psref wil...

Re: X1 Carbon Tablet 3rd Gen - Sleep/Suspend issues - Sometimes won't respond!

With one of my Windows 7 laptops at one point I had an issue that frequently during the transition to sleep, the laptop would lock up. It would turn the screen off and stop responding, but would never quite finish entering sleep state and so you couldn't wake it up except by forced shutdown like you...

The stock W701ds screen is not IPS, although I think it can be retrofitted by taking a screen from a comparable HP/DELL workstation.

There are no 14" 8:5 IPS screens, AFAIK.

When you set the GPU to maximum performance, does it automatically disable "display power saving technology"? Maybe it needs to be configured explicitly.

Shouldn't that T470s "act" identical to a T25 with dual battery?
Well, TP25 is like T470 (one internal, one external battery), not T470s (both internal); however, the algorithms are probably similar, I just never tested them.

Hard to know. I must confess that I am not experienced enough with how these dual battery algorithms work on modern Thinkpads.

In any case, it is probably a good idea to replace the faulty battery.

I don't expect noticeable performance differences in DOSBox between different versions of Windows, but XP may run better on T41 than Win7, and Win10 may not even run (due to missing PAE/NX on the CPU). ...

Funny. Here I am recalling how I purchased my first SSD in February 2014. It was a 500GB Evo 840, and at $300 that was a good deal back then. And it wasn't even a very good SSD - some performance issues were discovered (most of which were admittedly resolved, even if it took a while). Nowadays the n...

Faster RAM typically has the smallest possible effect on perceived system speed. You may need a hacked / older BIOS to support PC3-14900 speed in X220, as official new BIOS versions are locked to PC-10700 speed. Not worth it, IMO. X220 to X230 will not give a noticeable CPU speed boost; GPU speed - ...

You shouldn't disable the page file altogether, but you can shrink it. Reducing the number of write cycles on an SSD is not a target worth pursuing unless you are talking about old first-gen crappy SSDs.

Stuck lid close switch / sensor? Some laptops only start polling for these after the initial POST / BIOS, so the screen will be on in that environment, but then turn off (while the PC stays on). Not sure how it is on the T20.

The PD3200U panel is definitely 32.0", not 31.5". The dimensions I measured match the datasheet almost down to the millimeter:

Code: Select all

Screen diagonal: 812.8mm (32.0")
