According to the Platform Specifications, the X240 should support 4K @30Hz via the mDP port. But maybe the TV does not like 30Hz input, or maybe the problem is with the DP-to-HDMI cable.

I think the hinges are all different. The T60 14.1" hinges may be 'close enough', but I am not certain. I do know for sure that it is possible to replace the entire T61 14.1" standard lid with the T60 14.1" lid (which gives you symmetric bezel and equal-width hinges).

Well, for starts you will need the interposer that goes between the 14" mobo and the 15" chassis. It's a standard part.

Is it an ATI or an Intel-based T43? Intel-based may have a problem driving 1600x1200, IIRC.
