Fn+F12 - custom action (can be configured through keyboard manager). It seems there is no option to set Fn+F12 to hibernate, at least not easily, but since it can launch custom apps, maybe I can set up an app to trigger hibernation, then use that. I'll think about it later. An update: setting Fn+F1...

Re: Do I replace my IPS X220?

Is the X220 ips screen that good, and are the later FHD non ips screens really that bad? That depends on who you ask. I don't believe the new TN screens on Thinkpads are substantially better than old TN screens, resolution aside. If you felt a big difference going from TN to IPS on your X220, you m...

Re: T400 does not boot: any hint?

it's neither FireWire nor DP (T400 has no DP). It's broken USB port, without its part in the middle. I checked it carefully today. What I see: two of the wires are standing straight, and two of them (most right and most left) are deformed and pressed into port itself. That's right! Forgot that DP on...

this is quite strange model. It has 1 USB port and 1 FireWire port ("the bigger one") on the left side (and not 2 USB ports), It's not FireWire, but DisplayPort, but that is besides the point. To check the physical health of the USB ports, I wonder if it's enough to try to plug something into each ...

Re: Thinkpad 25 First Impressions (PICS)

I have not yet tested if plugging the USB into the Yellow Powered USB is enough power for 3.5". My understanding is that all 3.5" drives need 12V in addition to 5V. USB type A connectors (2.0 or 3.0, doesn't matter) never provide 12V, so it would not work, regardless of amperage. A USB type C port ...

'FlexView' is just a brand that IBM and later Lenovo used to describe IPS displays. The Lenovo monitor INF file stilll describes every IPS display as 'FlexView' as far as I know.

Yep, it did get progressively more and more bloated. And I did experience some glitches trying to use new versions on old Thinkpads, so using an older version may actually work better for you. In any case, you can always experiment until you find one that works well for you.

I have to agree with George's summary above. The single core (and not even a hyper-threaded one) really keeps these old ones back. I have a T42 SXGA+ IPS myself (that was the first Thinkpad I ever owned, incidentally). Now it's been relegated to a backup-of-a-backup in my parents' house; only used f...

Re: I want to put an NVMe ssd into my x60s

NVMe uses 4 PCIe lanes. You can only access 1 lane on an X60, on the WLAN slot. It also needs BIOS support in order to boot. Of course, such support is nonexistent in the X60 series I imagine that the NVMe-to-SATA adapter takes care of all this by presenting the drive as a SATA device to the system...

Throughput is capped at Sata I speeds but I guess I could get additional performance using a drive with lower latency.
Is it really so much more performance over a standard SATA SSD to be worth the extra complexity and/or price?

Try disabling network devices (wired or wireless) one at a time and see if the problem continues.

Also run powercfg -devicequery wake_armed from command prompt and see which devices are allowed to wake the system.
