Re: Cannot install windows

Are you installing to the internal hard drive or to a drive in the bay?

Are there any USB devices connected during the boot that freezes?

Can you boot in safe mode (after the installation is done copying files)?

Re: X230 tablet -- post-warranty extension

Maybe 6 weeks post-expiry it too long a period for them to offer to extend your coverage? I would try calling them or chatting with a rep online; they might be able to find an option for you. Although, in my opinion, it's more economical to go without it, and if something breaks just replace it when...

Any 64-bit CPU can run in 32-bit mode; it's the OS that matters.

*400/500 generation in the dock in theory should also work, but I could not find conclusive documentation about it.

Re: Thinkpad

T4x/R5x series have a parallel port on the chassis.

T6x/R6x series can have a native parallel port exposed via an Ultrabay adapter or via the Advanced Mini-Dock / Advanced Dock.

X6x series also have it via the Ultrabase.

Here is a list:

Re: Best 15.4 (or larger) *used* TP with numpad

I use the numpad directional keys when I play video games with the keyboard.

But the Thinkpad keyboards being very poor 2KROs (a lot of 3-key combinations jam), it's moot, because I would hardly ever use a Thinkpad keyboard to play games. :)

There were lots of custom built models with weird configs. For corporate customers and the like. The model number ending with a number and not with a letter (U for US, J for Japan, G for global) indicates this being such a model.

Re: Force X1 to boot from external display?

Try pressing Fn+F7 (multiple times, if needed) when the computer starts booting. This should cycle the display options.

The default display device can be selected in the BIOS, but navigating it without seeing anything on screen may be difficult.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any benchmarks against the two CPUs, and I don't have a 2.6 Ghz mobile 4-M to do my own benchmarks. You don't need benchmarks. Plenty of us have first-hand experience with these CPUs. The only real disadvantage the 4-M has is is 512KB of L2 instead of 1 MB. Compared be...

I guess I'm wrong, there are a few T470 models with 940MX:

But they don't seem to be offered at the moment.

-Heavier: The TP25 is specified at 3.48 lbs and the minimum weight for a 3+3 cell T470 per the PSREF is 3.49 lbs. Doesn't seem any heavier to me. Maybe the 3.49 lbs is for the 940MX version of the T470 and others are actually lighter? There is no 940MX version of the T470. I think this is a little ...

Probably... :)

The original FRU for the Reserve Edition battery is 42T5260, BTW. However, looking for it will probably get you a list of 'compatible' parts, which will not necessarily be prismatic.

I think the Thinkpad 15th Anniversary "Reserve Edition" (leather-coated X61s) had a prismatic 8-cell. Good luck getting hold of one. Or even talking to someone that has seen one in person.

Re: want to buy X60s 22 flush battery

It's still slightly lighter, cooler and gets better battery life than the full-voltage version. Especially important with the low capacity of these 4-cells. The prismatic 4-cell is 28Wh vs 37Wh, which negates the savings of the low-voltage CPU.

The 22 is not what you are looking for. It is the cylindrical 4-cell, which is flush with the back, but raises the bottom of the laptop. You need the Thinkpad Battery 31.

1) What's the FRU of that adapter? 2) Do you also experience bad mouse lag when it's plugged in? 3) Try disabling PCI-Express power management in the BIOS, if such an option exists. It sounds a lot like the interoperability problem between certain Intel chipsets and certain ExpressCard adapters. I r...

On the otherhand, deleting the right Shift and putting 2 or 3 more useful keys would be of benefit to me since I never ever use that key. 2.75 units of wasted space Touch typists usually use the right Shift with the keys on the right side of the keyboard, so it's useful to have around. I find it not only useless, but also harmful. It makes the left shift key too small and hard to reach with your pinky for someone with small/medium hands. It should have just been put on the right side of the keyboard at the expense of the already-longer-than-the-left right shift key. Although I mus...

Yep, but does a newly release product immediately get this discount? I'd say no, and it's possible it will get it in the future.

The price of the Thinkpad 25 sits well in between the "normal" and the "sale" price for the X1 Carbon.

If the T41 can run a lot of current-world applications, the A31p should do a better job as the specifications are technically better than the T41. It's the opposite. In the CPU department, the T41 is much better (don't make the mistake of thinking a Pentium M is anything like a Pentium 4-M), and in...

I read that the 4-cell sits flush with another model - perhaps the 14" Widescreen (T61)? Yes. Early 14" widescreens had only flush 4-cells. This includes the Z60t/Z61t (Z6x 4-cell battery) and 14" wide T61/R61/T400/R400 (T/R 14W 4-cell battery). Since the T410 series, the design changed and once ag...
