Re: Are T60 and Z60m batteries compatible?

This is the definitive answer (emphasis by me). Six cell batteries for Type A models are all interchangeable, however, the Type A six cell battery design is unique and will not fit in the Type B models. Re: Are T60 and Z60m batteries compatible?

This is an interesting question indeed. The 9-cell is basically 6-cell + something extra, so if the 9-cell fits, the 6-cell should fit; however it will not be properly flush with the chassis, because T60 has straight angled back, Z60m has a curved back. But I never actually tried; for all I know Len...

I believe so, but the logos are just stickers, and their dimensions are identical. You can get matching size IBM stickers and replace.

Re: Undock with connected USB Hard Drives

You never actually "need" to "safely remove" any USB devices on modern operating systems. Doing so merely "guarantees" that there will be no data loss, because it will force-flush all pending operations. "Optimize for quick removal", as far as I remember, disable write caching, so the chance of data...

Re: Any tips on protecting battery usage when plugged in 99% of the time?

Best practices vary between users, and not everyone will agree on what they are. Lenovo's software allows you to set custom charging thresholds (for the battery to start charging at X% and stop at Y%). If you keep the battery at a charge level lower than 100%, it will degrade less. Some say that 40-...

The back stub is to prevent the drive from going in a T4x machine. Snap it and you now have T4x compatibility. Please stop spreading misinformation. (I really wonder how you are going to get "T4x compatibility" on a SATA optical drive). Not to mention the absolute lack of relevance, since the OP as...

And with the EC-mod you can also use the X220 batteries! See Installing classic keyboard into X230 with EC firmware mod Yep, but I would not advise hunting for them in either case. They are no longer manufactured, and anything you find would be years old. If you can get a NOS very cheap, then sure.

Re: X230 battery replacement - how to make sure I have the correct battery?

Lenovo had made it easier to find the right battery, ever since they added a numeric, double-digit battery type for each kind, rather than forcing everyone to go by part number / FRU. For X230 you want a Battery 44+ (6-cell) or 44++ (9-cell). There is also 44 (4-cell), but its capacity is very low. ...

Think you didn't get the OP's point, he doesn't need the extra horsepower as his user case doesn't need it. True, but at some point newer versions of software will require newer CPUs just to run. So he'll be stuck using older versions forever. This process, however, takes far longer on Linux than o...

The key travel is indeed shorter on Thinkpad 25 versus the older 7-row keyboards like in the W520. However, it does not affect the pleasantness of using the keyboard one little bit.

While USB 3.0 drivers is probably an issue it also seems to be true that most UEFI firmware only supports 64-bit OS.
If the BIOS doesn't allow you to revert to legacy mode you won't be able to install 32-bit OS.
Right, right. You are correct of course.

Some systems (like Ivy Bridge generation for example) allow AMT to be disabled permanently via the BIOS. Also, some of them come from the factory with non-AMT motherboards. It's extremely hot while in suspend? Makes no sense.

Are you sure it actually entered sleep mode and did not lock up overheating while trying to enter it?

Do you have Lenovo Power Manager installed? Which version? Which operating system?
