Re: Windows 7 Procedure Install in 2022 after (EOL) to get Windows updates working

If it boots and runs the installer, then it's fine. And yes, you should of course remove it, otherwise it will run the installer again. Some installers have the option of "Press any key to boot from DVD/USB" prompt for this purpose, and if you don't press anything, it will boot from hard drive.

Re: Windows 7 Procedure Install in 2022 after (EOL) to get Windows updates working

I have tried ones on IBM X60s and Lenovo T60p with Windows Media Creation Tool to boot Win 7, but after first restart it starts to boot again from the beginning and the loop never stops. You're not just booting the same recovery media again, are you? :P Make sure you remove the flash drive after it...

Re: My ,,new,, T61p - future upgrades ?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new laptop. :D It is always better (safer) to perform BIOS updates from a bootable CD/USB stick in a single-threaded (DOS) environment. In a multi-threaded environment, there is a bigger chance (even if still small) of something crashing / freezing mi...

I have never set up a Croatian PC specifically, but I have certainly set time and currency to local formats, when using the English US version. Should be OK. I think, if you install Ultimate you can also download the language packs post-install.

Re: T440p on docking - do i need a new charger?

65W? You're not even supposed to use the laptop itself with the 65W. Lenovo's standard called for 65W charger for dual-core integrated graphics machines. 90W for dual-core discrete graphics and 135W for quad-core models. 65W for your quad-core, plus the dock with peripherals, would really be pushing...

If you are fine with the English version, you can grab an August 2018 updated ISO using the HeiDoc.net Windows ISO Downloader: https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-download-tool That one will have fewer servicing stack updates to install to g...

Re: Accidentally powered off machine during BIOS flash

Hello and welcome to the forum. :) Sorry to hear about your misfortune. There is a crisis recovery procedure which works on many Thinkpads, and I think it includes X61. I have never tried it myself, but it's been documented to work, at least in some cases. More details here: https://forum.thinkpads....

This may be the culprit. The standard for SATA is +5V. Apparently, not all SATA power cables/plugs implement the 3.3V wire.

I am not aware of such issues. The Ultrabay is a direct SATA port to the chipset. It is no different from the main bay. Not working in a USB enclosure is also strange. One could assume that there is something wrong with the Ultrabay or the USB enclosure, but both at the same time? What is the exact ...

Re: T41 no longer recognises CF card

Forgive my CF slander, the medium as a whole is great for retro PC's with its native IDE compatibility - I made a mistake and should have mentioned it's a gamble when trying to use it on a laptop , esp a ThinkPad which is fussy. I was a bit annoyed when I wrote my last post. My decision to go CF wa...

People on YT praise CF as an SSD alternative for retro PC's but imo its absolute garbage, and the cards cost a fortune for what little size they have and aren't even guaranteed to work in the first place I wouldn't jump to this conclusion so fast. Welcome to the forum. :)

Are you talking about the CMOS battery or the internal Li-ion battery? If it's the latter, then the X230 does not have an internal battery - this started with the X240 (and is indeed compatible all the way up to X270).

According to this article (japanese) there is going to be a 30th Anniversary model. It's unlikely to be anything but a rehash of the T25; this is, a regular T series with a classic keyboard . I was using Win98 and also pure DOS mode on that machine. You can read about the drivers I used here:

Are you running the games under pure DOS mode or from within Win98?

I think that trying Shareware Doom 1.9 is a good idea too.

I briefly tested DOS games on an A21m which I think has the same audio chipset and I don't recall any special SFX issues with any DOOM game. Make sure sound is not muted in the game itself.

Welcome to the forum. :) VGA to HDMI is probably the worst way to connect an external digital monitor. It requires an active converter, and you are still limited by the quality of the analog signal. I assume you don't have an old laptop IDE HDD to try, otherwise you would have mentioned it. About Power Delivery, I'm not opposed to it per se, but to the unnecesary miniaturization. In a phone there is no room for anything but USB-C, but a laptop should have a similar connector just physically larger. A normal size USB port in USB-C shape (let's call it "USB-D") is what the computing wor...

X220 Tablet has two types of screens: IPS and non IPS
Are you sure about this? According to the PSREF, both Outdoor and Multitouch options were IPS. Sure there exist compatible non-IPS screens, but they were not supposed to be used on stock configs.
