See if some of my threads will help you decide between the 14" and 15" T60 systems. I've owned both at one point:

Re: Go Retro! IBM ThinkPad T60

A T60 is still one of my favorite systems. I have a similar, near-stock T7200/X1400/SXGA+. Upgraded to 3GB RAM and a 320GB 7200RPM drive. That one runs XP, because it's almost the only XP system left in my home. I use it to test old games and software here and there.

Re: WTB ThinkPad with 4:3 And XGA preferred

The only stock options you have for 4:3 with 4GB RAM support are T61 (4:3 14.1", available worldwide), R61 (4:3 15", available only in EU/Asia markets) or X61 (4:3 12.1", but then it's almost as small as 15" SXGA+).

Or take a T60 4:3 shell and stick a T61 motherboard in it.

Re: Stay on Windows 11 or switch to Linux?

I been reading that Microsoft is now going to start blocking software that isn't from the MS Store or verified. Even Software for hardware like Intel. So, I am guessing if you have say, a core i 8th/9th/10th gen "Windows 11 Supported" and you want the latest update version of windows 11 or future v...

Re: Upgrading drive in ThinkPad T510 to SSD

Actually there's a third type, AHCI/PCIe -- these are SSDs that use direct PCIe connections (like NVMe SSDs), but "talk" AHCI just like SATA HDDs and HDDs. Because of the AHCI interface, they can be used as boot devices on older PCs without NVMe BIOS/UEFI support. I wonder how they achieved that. A...

While Dec'07 is fairly early for a T61 - it could not have had a "Core Duo", since these ended with the early T60 machines.

Forget about sticking random motherboards into laptop shells that were not designed for them. Laptop motherboards, unlike desktops, are not standardized.

Just get a modern / quazi-modern laptop / mini-PC.

All I want to do is see if the T480 motherboard will fit T470 and the bottom base cover of T480 as well. The T470p and T470 chassis is not the same size (e.g., https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=131236). It's not just a matter of port placement as you seem to believe, but it looks like you really want to try this mod, so good luck.

I think it's a fact made up by someone on Wikipedia. I could find no other reference to the 760CDV anywhere else on the internet. I agree. There's no source cited for the 760CDV at all. And the fact that it's not on any Hardware Maintenance Manual (at least, the ones I've seen anyway) casts a lot o...

Re: Lid closes and opens really easily needs tightening somewhere?

My 15" T42 and 15" T60 have wobbliness in the hinges, but beyond that they are still solid, and it has not gotten worse. Of all my Thinkpads, only the X32 has had the hinges weakened to the point where the lid falls shut past a certain angle. Definitely better than the opposite problem. As RBS had s...

Re: HDMI to USB cable recommendations - please

USB 2 won't have enough bandwith for a good output with HDMI. Indeed. The options are either a VGA-to-HDMI active converter, or a docking station, and then an HDMI-to-DVI adapter. However, it depends on the resolution of the 28" monitor. If it is more than 1920x1200, then even from DVI a direct ada...

Using the restore disks gives you drivers that don't understand WPA2. That's part of the authentic vintage experience. What I ended up doing was hacking the restore ISO to have updated drivers on it (find the encrypted zip on the restore disk that contained the relevant wifi drivers, create a (non ...
