How many Thinkpads do you own?
Well I currently own 5. 1st: t42 with 15" flexview, 98% new, pretty much just opened box made sure it works and put it in storage. That is my first collection. 2nd: this t60 with 14" I am typing on. Use it daily and bring it to work so I don't have to touch Macbooks. 3rd: a T42 bough off ebay. Tried...

thank you. i actually like lenovo as a company and i think they do good work. the reason why i want the old logo is that i think they give the laptop a more personality instead of the thinkpad logo which i think is a little cramped together. i never liked the windows or rest of the stickers. my t60 ...

t60 palm rest replacement
i tried to get those ati and intel label off my palm rest this morning, and accidentally scuff the palm rest. it now looks like irritating like a pimple.
i see that ibm sells replacement for 115 bucks. does this come with the old school ibm logo or the new thinkpad logo?

Re: Firewire a Security Risk?
How is firewire any more of a security risk than USB, RS232, parallel ports, etc.? I too, am curious about the answer to this question and the reason for the extra concern. I usually just disable them if i don't use 'em anyway. firewire have a built in backdoor and if you the software to take advan...

i am really not trying to be an [censored] but these are common knowledge. and if you really want to run win2k i think you will be in a better shoe if you use virtual pc 2007 and install win2k as a virtual os. Why in the Multiverse would I want to bog my poor laptop down like that? It works just fi...

Re: Engadget
It would seem official: http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/21/lenovo-joins-the-all-widescreen-club-axes-the-4-3-thinkpad-t61/ It's not a formal move and there's no announcement, but it's clearly a growing trend i guess you missed that part. if you guys can recall lenovo never even offered a standard w...

P.S. -- o1001010 is completely incorrect in all his points. The 9600 in the T42 is NOT faster than the FireGL T2 in the T42p. Do some research and you will find that they are the EXACT SAME SILICON; the difference is in the PCI product ID and the drivers. You can mod Radeon drivers to run on the T2...

Windows XP Tablet Edition is not available for the x64 architecture. Furthermore, Vista's tablet functionality is leaps and bounds better than Windows 2005 Tablet Edition (aka XP SP2). As someone who has been using a tablet pc since 2004, my advice is to stick with Vista. Downgrading from Vista to ...

if i was in your shoe, backup all files and reinstall. the time you will be wasted trying to get the thing up and running will probably exceed the 2.5 hours needed to have a fresh install. and if you will be doing that you might as well downgrade to xp 64. i am using vista 64 enterprise now and i fa...

Don't be misled by those unethical eBay sellers such as Thinkpadworld . "Factory sealed" is NOT new. Instead, they are used laptops, many of which are quite beat up. They put the used laptop in a box and sealed the package in a factory -- that's all. The one I want to get comes from ibmfactoryoutle...

this is what i read, copied from wikipedia. Work on the 802.11n standard dates back to 2004. The draft is expected to be finalized in November 2008 with publication in July 2009,[1] but major manufacturers are now releasing 'pre-N', 'draft n' or 'MIMO-based' products based on early specs. These vend...

for your purpose you can stick with a t42. if i am not mistaken the t42 with 9600 radeon is actually faster than the 128 firegl. but vista won't run aero because it is 64mb. there are still new t42 on ebay if you really want a t42. but for my purpose, i will go with a t61 standard screen. nvidia alw...

ok in my experience: i am not a hardcore wireless guy at all, because most of the stuff i do is security related so i almost always use a wired connection. but when it comes to wireless i do believe that atheros chips are better, better supported for linux, etc. i do understand that N is not officia...
