I called IBM and they sent me a new keyboard the next day. I just did the installation (which takes about 15 minutes), and the machine is good to go. Right now, I am a happy camper.
I wish the hard drive were faster though!

The "H" Key on the X40
My "H" key constantly pops out of the keyboard when I type. Is anyone having a similar problem or knows how to fix it?

Preliminary thoughts
Just to relay some first impressions of my new X40, 1.2 GHz, bluetooth, 40 Gig drive, 1 Gig memory, IBM b/g wireless card (bought from CDW): The bad news: The build quality is good but not as good as my old A20p (15" screen). The keyboard is worse, and of course the screen/graphics are much worse. I...

Resolved
The problem is partially resolved. The router for the network I am on does not interact properly with intel's gigabit chips (this is intel's fault). Moving to a different router let me see the network but DNS failed to work. Finally fixed DNS by manually specifying the DNS server for the connection ...

Similar observation
I have noticed similar behavior with my 1.2 GHz X40. The fan rarely comes on, but once on, it doesn't seem to shut off. I will try to contact IBM today (about the ethernet card issue) and ask them about this.

On the way to a resolution
I think I've finally located the source of the error. The network I am on is a slow 10 Mbps network (slow for a gigabit chip). I updated the drivers for the 82541 GI controller in the Intel PRO/1000 MT card. This did not help. What happens is that the port no longer has problems pinging the server a...

Correction
Sorry that should be with a "request timed out" error for the ping attempts. Occasionally, 1 or 2 get through.

Help! Intel PRO/1000 MT
I can't get my intel PRO/1000 MT port on my new X40 to function properly. I can connect to the local network but the connection is incredibly slow. When I ping the local server, I get 50-75% of the packets dropped (without a timeout error). It is very likely that the router is not negotiating correc...

IBM X40 b/g cards
So I found out that the IBM b/g cards use ATHEROS AR5002G chipset. I've finally ordered my machine, and I'll update everyone on whether SuperG works with my DI-624 router.

b/g Card?
Thanks for all your help. One final question: do you know whether the Atheros Utility will work with the IBM b/g card?
Right now, the only machine I can get has the b/g rather than a/b/g card, and I am not sure what chipset it uses.

Battery Choices for the X40
I am about to order my X40, but I need to decide on the battery choice. What would you recommend? In particular, what is your experience with the 4-cell, 8-cell, and extended life batteries? Does the 8-cell add much additional weight over the 4-cell? How much real world additional time do you get wi...

SuperG and mini PCI
Hi, I have some basic questions that I hope someone can help answer. I am planning to get a thinkpad X40. I am considering adding the IBM brand 802.11 b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter to avoid external antenae while getting g networking. At home, I have DSL and I used have a D-link router with supe...
