Re: X220 Blue Screen

No, started from scratch and all X220 dedicated drivers (I assume) were installed through window updates. The only manually installed driver was the WiFi driver to engage the network connection.

But so far it works fine...

X220 Blue Screen

Hi Guys, I recently bought an X220 and have replaced the HDD with an SSD that I used before in my old X60s. During the installation of Windows updates a few times the blue screen displayed, however it only happened when the updates were carried out. Is this something I should worry about? Below is t...

Re: Optimizations

Thank you for the responses, I appreciate it. I started testing Xubuntu 18.04 and noticed some advantages like the fact that the Bluetooth stays off after switching it off and system restart and the screen does not go black when I close-open the lid (although the highlight settings change though). I think I have the battery power manager sorted. Thank you (I managed to set the thresholds so I assume it works...). Now the one big problem with closing and opening the lid is the one to get sorted. After chatting with other Linux users I was told that this version of Mint (the last one 19) is not...

Thank you, I will try that when I get a moment. I also found another annoying problem, but hopefully easy to sort out. When I close the lid and open it (or when the screen goes blank when inactive) the screen remains black no matter what I do. The computer needs a hard restart to get the screen goin...

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread

From my experience 6 GB helps marginally but 8 GB is questionable and I tested my X301 with both. If you need 8 GB you are probably over extending your X301. I run 8 GB in my X220. It's your machine and your money. Good luck Thanks, It is not a question of requirements (I could live with 4 GB), but...

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread

Assuming you are running a 64 bit OS the X301 will run fine with 4GB but if you want to increase the ram IMO 6GB is the sweet spot. The core 2 duo systems are not quite as ram hungry as the Icore series which followed. I will run a 64 bit probably on fresh installation. Does 8 GB make sense? And se...

Apologies for bumping this thread, however I am really confused with the SSD and would like to finally upgrade my X301 with one. Re: T530 - a good replacement for a T43p?

You'd get a perfectly good case with no cracks or broken parts and all screws and other parts properly in place. Lately I also reinforce the top-left chassis corner to avoid the chassis breaking there. I have built close to a hundred of these machines, believe me, I know what I'm doing! Thanks for ...

Re: T530 - a good replacement for a T43p?

Compared to a T43p, a properly built FrankenPad like what you can get from RBS will absolutely fly. If you go this route, you certainly won't be disappointed. And - it will be the most similar in terms of look, feel, and layout to your T43p out of any of the other possibilities. Yeah, this option i...

Re: T530 - a good replacement for a T43p?

Upgrading the T43p is a possibility, but truth be told - the single core Pentium M is going to hold you back. Coming from a T43p... you'll feel more "at home" on anything one generation older than the *30 series units, since the keyboard was changed fairly significantly starting with these. Also co...

T530 - a good replacement for a T43p?

Hi Guys, I want to upgrade my OH's ThinkPad - she uses an old T43p. The T43p has a nice keyboard and a good LCD (1600 x 1200), but the machine is getting slower and slower with Win XP running. There is a T530 2394-5ZG for sale locally and I am thinking of replacing the old ThinkPad, but I don't want...

I've had more than twenty x301 machines and have never seen one that didn't have a webcam. Suppose it might have been possible with a CTO that was to be used in a secure location. If that's the case, the BIOS may have been modified to prevent a camera from being detected. The camera is connected vi...

X301 Integrated camera retrofit

A quick question Guys.

Is the screen bezel in the X301 wired up for the factory web cam, i.e. if the machine comes from the factory without the webcam (but it is an option in this model), is it just a matter of installing it in, or do you need the dedicated cables or other parts as well?

Cheers.

Re: X301 Type 4057-V2A - would you?

If that machine still has the original recovery partition on it, you might be able to create recovery disks, provided the previous owner has not done so already. From these you could recover to factory settings on a new SSD. Cloning will not work properly, because an SSD needs to be aligned differe...

X301 Type 4057-V2A - would you?

Hi Guys, I am looking for a new, quality machine and found a nice X301 type 4057-V2A. As far as I can see there is a standard HDD in it, quite unusual for this model. But anyway, the question is, is it easily upgradable to SSD without the original Windows installation CDs and generally, how does the...

A31p Freezes and needs hard restart

Hi All, My A31p keeps freezing for the last week. When it happens, the machine needs hard restart. Then it may freeze again after, say 15min. Re: A31p - System restarts & freeze after lid close

Finally... My A31p works as it should.
I formatted the HDD again and reinstalled all programs step by step, checking every time after each installation.
The problem was with Zone Lab Firewall. After I uninstalled it, all came back to normal.
