Re: Vertical bands on x220 ips display: is it the display or the LVDS cable?

Bending can make it more likely, but the actual cause is generally the contact tape delaminating on the back of the LCD matrix. There is a contact for every addressable row and contact. Bending can stress the adhesive.

It should have said T420s battery. That fits, but doesn't work.

W530, W520 FHD screen assembly B156HW01 V.4 SOLD

A real AUO Lenovo FHD screen. It is in a W520 lid (which also fits a W530). No lines, spots or dead/hot pixels. It has good latch hooks, tight hinges, a webcam, cables and antenna wires. The panel also works in a W510, but the cables are different.

$96 plus shipping.

Re: T420, no backlight and image on LCD, external works OK

Another possibility on that model is the Hall sensor (lid switch). If that is the case, you can confirm by disconnecting the LCD cable all the way to the right side. This will also disconnect the microphone, camera, etc.

Re: t530 lcd panel upgrade

There are HD+ (1600X900) and FHD screens, but nothing higher. Some people found the FHD screen "too hot", with the reds being more intense, but I used that screen and likes it. You just need to change the panel itself. If you change the panel, be sure to have it unplugged and have the main battery o...

You should be able to get a very nice x220t shipped to Argentina for that amount. I usually have one or two for sale, but right now, the one I have has a less-than perfect screen. (You can look at eBay item 251975000440) I have one coming in next Tuesday or Wednesday, but I don't know exactly what t...

Re: Urgently looking for a workstation laptop

Many people (myself included) don't like the button-less clickpad on the W540. I use a W540, but swapped in a W541 touchpad. I don't suggest that option, as it may affect warranty coverage. My prior machine was a W530, which I liked a lot. Ii is currently for sale. Send me a PM if you wish to discuss.

Re: T410 and T520 parts needed

The slot below the express card is for an SD (memory) card. (like the ones used on many cameras) The smart card is on the other side. Most machines sold in U.S. don't have them - mostly used in Europe and Australia. If you don't know what the color sensor is, you don't have one - mostly used on W520...

I am guessing that the fan is not making good contact with the CPU die. You need to remove the fan, clean the old paste off, put on new thermal paste and reattach.

Re: W520 BIOS password

It will always take a typed-in password, whether the fingerprint reader is present or not. On a W520, the password is ALWAYS encrypted. There is no option for clear text. The PW can be up to 64 characters. Unfortunately, it sounds like you forgot yours.

If it is more than one key on the same side, you are probably looking at a new keyboard. Since you recently took it apart, I suggest trying to reseat the connector first. (free to try)

Re: Is there a way to update recovery disk information?

There may be a way, but I couldn't find it. I spent more time than I would like to admit trying to do that in order to get SP1 into a set so I could install onto an advanced format drive. I have the tools to break apart ISOs and to build a winPE environment, and I was unable to get it to work.

Re: How to troubleshoot LCD?

A detached cable gives you a white screen, not a black one. Most commonly, this problem is caused by a bad panel or a blown motherboard fuse. If it is a blown fuse, you will see a VERY faint picture if you look at the screen closely. It will be easier to see if you shine a flashlight into the screen.

It will slow down the CPU if it gets close to overheating. Install something to monitor temperatures. I suggest tpfancontrol
