BF2 (which is of the more CPU and graphics-intensive games, I guess) worked OK on my T43 w/ X300. I overclocked the GPU from 300/230 to 400/300 without experiencing overheating. The OC gives an additional 20-30% performance in graphics-intensive games, which is a real bonus. I used the omega drivers...

Re: Fan 5 Second Pulsing
It actually seems the fan fix done for T40/p-T42/p (changes EC firmware 3.02 -> 3.03) is integrated into the T43/p firmware. However, looking at sub_13b74 , there seems to be a typo: er0 is loaded from RAM but then er1 is incremented and dereferenced, and a new value is loaded into r0 -- i.e. the p...

It is very easy to run the T43 with no fan at all: Enable "Powerplay" on the GPU. Go to display properties -> settings -> advanced -> powerplay, and make sure power play is enabled and set to "maximum battery" (or whatever it is called). This should make sure that even if the fan is completely off, ...

So that would label me as "Deaf", oh excuse me...let's just "say" that, would it not? That furthers illustrates how this boils down to personal opinion; if you want, you can come over here and personally listen and view my T43 Thinkpad. It has been on, again, for one hour and the fan has yet to com...

I wouldn't worry about the PCI. Alternatively, you can set fancontrol to ignore the PCI altogether. Though the temperature is high, it will never become critical. The only temperatures that can rise rapidly to more than 60 is CPU and GPU. Undervolting with NHC and using powerplay on the GPU flats th...

I definitely agree...IBM/Lenovo should come up with a fix. And I'm not sure I agree with this being a "random" thing, given the number of people who complain. Rather, some people (let's call them "normal") agree that the fan noise of a T43 is unbearable under all circumstances, while others (let's c...

No other replies? What about setting up your own boot image, or maximizing WiFi connections? As I think I've stated before, I seem to get better milage (and less heat) from turning on Powerplay "max battery" instead of underclocking the X300, even when clocking it below the 105/120 that Powerplay d...

Yes, the WinIO/portIO approach is to blame for the errors, as they probably circumvent the whole windows HAL (or whatever would be the right term for the ACPI devices). I just tried the generally accepted WMI access to msacpi_thermalzonetemperature, but this seems to give a constant CurrentTemperatu...

Without having any knowledge on the subject, it seems like using WMI or writing a device driver (which can probably access the ACPI thermal zones directly) seems the only alternatives, as the windows ACPI EC driver will then be informed what is going on. NHC does not trigger the error, yet does not ...

The day I got my T43 I was pretty much dumbstruck by the constant turbine howl, until I found the fancontrol utility. The machine would have been returned otherwise... I've set the fan to come on at 54 degrees Celsius, which means it is never running. When gaming, I turn fancontrol off anyway. Durin...

I have also experienced similar buzzing on most laptops I've used, and it always seem to be related to the power scheme/CPU frequency, and CPU use. (So far, 4 different laptops from 1999 till now). I've heard several different explanations, but my guess is that it is related to the processor and/or ...
