Re: Is it possible 16GB of ram

Topic also covered here: --> http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=101624

Consensus was that the T400 won't take 16GB ram as the chipset won't allow for anything more than 8GB (which Lenovo states is already unachievable).

Re: Is there a USB 3 port in my T420

T420 s systems have 1 USB3.0 port (blue), T420 systems do not have any USB3.0 ports. The yellow USB port simply means that it can supply power to external devices (charge cell phones, etc) even when the computer is off - these are referred to as "always-on" USB ports (this function is configurable i...

Re: T400s max ram

I don't believe the mobile *M45 chipsets can handle more than 8GB. Current generation Sandy Bridge (*M67) and next gen "Ivy Bridge" yes, but not the older gen chipsets with Merom and/or Penryn CPUs. Remember reading posts where people have tried 16GB in T410s and the computer would POST but then han...

Re: 2x 4GB RAM for X200s

Just wanted to add to this conversation. The x200(s) is very finicky with Corsair and Crucial RAM. Tried both on my x200 CTO with P8700 and the machine wouldn't even post using either RAM (2x4GB or just 1x4GB). I pretty much gave up having more than 4GB RAM in my x200 until I recently tried Mushkin ...

Re: Who need the little arrows in the desktop icons?

Instead of installing a new application just to change this one option, consider using regedit: http://www.blogsdna.com/2064/how-to-remove-windows-7-shortcut-extension-and-shortcut-arrow-icon.htm I'd be careful with that one... Turns out in some cases Win7 won't recognize that "first" overlay image...

Re: Best settings for x200T w/W7

I don't bother with the majority of the thinkvantage stuff and my machine is super quick - self made EE on steroids I suppose. hehe. To take full advantage of Lenovo's "Enhanced Experience" you need to do a factory install of their software/OS, which negates running a clean system without all the wo...

Re: Possible to use 8GB RAM in a X200

This topic intrigued me when I first read it and I've been digging around a bit more. There's one computer reseller in Singapore which offers the x200 with 8GB pre-installed and I also found this post where the individual's x200 will come with 8GB RAM. Looks like the X200 is indeed capable of handli...

What exactly is this "Enhanced Experience" supposed to be? Some sort of registry tweak or something? I'm running Win7 Pro x64 on my X61 (T7500, 4GB RAM) and the thing starts up in 18 seconds (max) to a full-working desktop; shutdown is less than 5 seconds. Re: Is there any fan noise problems with X61?

X61 units (especially with a wireless "n" card installed) have a bad history of heat issues. Try to acquire one with WWAN, since these came with 2 fans instead of one. Good luck. Got an x61 with the Intel AGN card and no WWAN but the machine came with 2 fans. Fans are very quiet, quieter than those...

You should still leave the BIOS sett...

Right. When you download the package from lenovo, double-click it, and it will then extract to a dir (c:\DRIVERS\WIN\IMSM), then double click "install.cmd" in the "PREPARE" folder. Reboot your system, go to the BIOS, change compatibility to AHCI and you're all set. When Windows starts up, it will "a...

Hi there, It's quite possible that the SATA driverset wasn't installed properly in XP and that's preventing Windows XP from booting properly. WinXP does not natively support ICH8 Sata interface.
