One long and two short beeps.

Hi All, Long time no post. I have a problem w/ a T42 here (out of warranty). It posts one long and two short beeps, doesn't boot and LCD is blank. Hardware maintenance manual says it's 1) system board, 2) lcd assembly or 3) DIMM. I suspect it is a system board problem (switched out the DIMM and rese...

i've fixed this problem for now by changing the start up type to "manual." i can still access BT whenever i need by turning on the device.

It's summer where I am, and it's HOT. I'm really not liking this super-heated right palm rest on the X60s... Has anyone else used a PCMCIA WiFi w/ noticeably less heat on the palm rest? Are there cards that don't require an external antennae? And can a 3rd party PCMCIA card be properly configured wi...

Bluetooth service hangs

Through event viewer, I've isolated my startup delay, which seems to be a problem w/ Bluetooth. The error reads: "The Bluetooth Service service hung on starting." Has anyone encountered this or can advise a solution? BTW, this happens regardless if BT is on or off. And when on, BT works fine. Thanks.

I didn't know the key from unattend.txt is specific to Thinkpads. Is it also unique to the original Thinkpad, or will it work on all Thinkpads? I have some older units that have lost the original I386 directory -- could I use the same key for all Thinkpads I have? Btw, how does the WinXP setup know ...

Just to clarify, can the multiburner on the X60 read/write both -/+?
What is its write speed for either? And which mode do people generally prefer? Thanks!

Sudden battery drop

Hi I have a T23. While using battery, the gauge (maximiser utility) will suddenly drop from 95% to 3% and then die shortly after. It seems like the battery is just old, however, it would be nice to observe the power drop in gradual increments. I know in the more recent "Power Manager" on T4x+ series...

Battery Maintenance

Just bought a extra big battery for a T43 and I'm trying to make this one last. Thinkpad Power Manager has a built in battery preserver by letting the battery drain to 96% and then charging back to 100%. I suppose this is why my battery meter drops when I am plugged in. Does anyone recommend another...

Docking w/ Win2k is fine.

Speedsteping Core Duo w/ Win2k is NOT fine.

Therefore... I have regretfully resorted back to XP, which doesn't even do SpeedStep well. Bah.

Was this issue ever resolved? Speedstep in Win2k is also disabled for me. It doesn't seem to play well with Core Duo's Enhanced SpeedStep... :(

Any help?

Docking w/ Win2k?

Hi I originally posted in X60, but I think this may be a better channel.

Does Ultrabase work well with Win2k? I know WinXP makes docking pretty easy. But I have no experience w/ docking stations in Win2k.

Thanks

Docking capabilities with Win2k?

I am curious to know if Win2k can handle docking in Ultrabase as well as WinXP does. For instance, is there a "undock" option in the start menu (near the Shut Down option in XP) ?

50 hz refresh rate

What's with the 50 hz refresh rate?

I thought 60 was the standard. I am running an x60s on WinXPP, fresh install w/ lenovo drivers. Is it supposed to be 50hz (to save batt?), or is something wrong?

Thanks

Hi All, I have a weird thing happening on a T42. Regular resolution is 1400x1050. I want to change it to 1024x768. When I change to 1024x768... it shrinks the screen to 1024x768. There is black margins filling in the spaces in a 1400x1050 space. I want the 1024x768 to stretch over the standard 1400x...

Paging File (Win2K)

I've never quite figured out a good paging file size.

On machines with larger amounts of RAM (1GB-2GB), what's a reasonable paging file size? How come some people turn it completely off? What kind of difference does it make to have or not have?

Thanks

Btw, what does the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) do?

When docking X60 Ultrabase...

To dock/undock the Ultrabase... Is it basically the same thing as plugging in a flash drive and having to eject it to safely remove it? Or, is there a separate Hardware Profile created? If this is the case, does it work well? Because I know in T4x, there is no such thing when docked in a MiniDock. T...

1GB+512MB in X60?

Hi, I noticed some X60s have 1.5GB of DDR2 ram going on. Isn't it better to match the ram modules (ex: 1GB + 1GB or 512MB + 512MB)? Or is the mismatched combo somehow better, such as forcing non-dual memory mode for less heat/power? (I don't really know what I'm talking about). Any insights? Thanks....
