Re: Slow Boot Prior to Loading BIOS
I have already disabled the Bluetooth in the BIOS settings. But I'll try the CMOS battery. Great idea. Thanks!

Slow Boot Prior to Loading BIOS
I have an X301 4057-18U that takes 10 minutes from pushing the power button to the "Press the ThinkVantage button to interrupt normal startup..." message. During this time there is no sign of life from the computer at all, except the normal battery and charge lights, the light on the power button, a...

Good Quality TrackPoint Caps
Does anyone have a source for quality TrackPoint caps? I just purchased some through Amazon that were listed as an official Lenovo part. But they're slipperier than my worn-out originals. Plus they came from China which seems suspicious. I'm looking specifically for all styles besides the old eraser...

Re: T41P Reballing
I sent out another T41p board to GPU Medics and they did a good job. It took about 1 1/2 weeks from when I sent it out to when I got it back. I put everything back together and everything works great! Cost was $30 shipped.

Re: Z Series Shared Video Memory
Thanks for your replies! I really like the 14" widescreen Z61, but I'm thinking that one is only available with the shared video memory. What I would really like is something that would be noticably faster than my t41p... and I hate to go backwards video-wise, because I have sxga and 128mb of vram r...

Z Series Shared Video Memory
Hi,
Do all of the Z Series Thinkpads have shared video memory? Is this the "weak link" in the Z Series as far a performance goes?
Thanks,
Curt

I was also wondering about the screen. On the bottom toward the left... is that a blemish on the screen or just the photo?
Thanks again,

Hi,
Do you have any pics of the lid? Are there any scratches on it?
Thanks!

T23 Hard Drive Capacity
What is the largest hard drive that can be used in a T23? (It's a PATA, right)? Can I use any PATA drive that I buy locally in it? It currently has Windows XP installed.
Thanks,
Curt

Re: T41P Reballing - Update
Just wanted to let everyone know that everything is still operating perfectly... I use this laptop daily... on my lap, in and out of its bag, to and from work (it's handled alot!). I do try to support it carefully, but it's definitely withstood the test of time! Hope this helps!

T4x Extended Battery 93P5003
I am tyring to find an inexpensive source for a brand new extended 9 cell battery (93P5003) for my T41p. Has anyone made a purchase from thinkpad-parts.com? They have this battery listed (new, genuine) for $49. Any other sources for this battery would be greatly appreciated also! Thanks!

Re: T41P Reballing
Well, the saga is over, and I'm happy to report that everything turned out okay! Turns out that G.M. actually sent my board to my address; their email and the email from PayPal just showed that they sent it to the wrong address. I called G.M. yesterday morning, spoke with Robert, and he explained th...

Re: T41P Reballing
Got an email from GPU Medics yesterday stating that board has been shipped, also got one from PayPal which included USPS tracking number and shipping address. Unfortunately, GPU Medics has shipped my board to someone else (presumably another customer). I Emailed and called G.M. within 1/2 hour of th...

Thermal Paste / Themal Pad
I will soon be reassembling my T41p and am looking for suggestions regarding thermal paste and pad for the CPU and GPU. The application of thermal paste onto the CPU seems pretty straight forward; apply a thin layer to the small rectangle on top of the CPU where it comes in contact with the copper c...

Re: T41P Reballing
So when I upgrade from my T41p to the next generation of Thinkpads (and I always buy used and a couple of years old), what exactly do I look for in terms of reliability?

Re: T41P Reballing
Great explanation, Nick! I'm starting to get a clearer idea of how this all works. I will be disassembling my T41 tonight, and I'm anxious to see how things look. I can now see how these chips could come loose so easily if the board flexes at all. It seems that the solder is literally "gluing" them ...

Re: T41P Reballing
Probably my biggest concern at this point is workmanship / long-term reliability. I bought my T41 as "refurbished" just 3 months ago and I wonder if the refurbishing was on the GPU. I know there are several approaches to this; do-it-yourself reflow, professional reflow, reballing. I want a reliable,...

Salvage Serial Number
I just purchased a used T41P (2373GEU) that shows "SALVAGE" for the serial number under "System Information" in the "Access IBM" program. I've heard of salvage titles for totaled vehicles. Is this the same sort of thing?
Thanks!
