Re: Does it make sense to use mSATA SSD for data partition?

If you want to do it properly, use a 120GB or larger mSATA for OS and main programs, and up to a 2TB HD or SSD in the drivebay for data. I once had a 120gb Sata I hdd in my desktop a few years back. Boy I thought I couldn't fill that thing up until 8 months later I needed to put in a second one. Yo...

Re: Does it make sense to use mSATA SSD for data partition?

The problem is that you should use the 120gb for the OS and data because 32gb for the os will give you problems because you will have to install programs on the data drive which will lead to many problems down the road.(ask me how I know...) Sent from my E6553 using Tapatalk Thanks for clarifying. ...

Re: Does it make sense to use mSATA SSD for data partition?

For a 120gb ssd it makes no sense for me to do that. It would make more sense if you were going to encrypt the second partition with a password for backup but at that point just put in a second drive. You should try going with a WD Black2 (Squared) which has a 120gb ssd and 1tb hdd in a 2.5" packag...

Does it make sense to use mSATA SSD for data partition?

Recently bought a T430 and installed a 120GB SSD in it. I could partition this into OS and data partitions, but I was wondering if it makes sense to use a mSATA SSD as a data partition. For what it's worth, the T430 user guide doesn't recommend using a mSATA SSD as a boot drive, and suggests using i...

Re: Stuck (improperly inserted) battery - any ideas?

Battery removed. In case anyone finds this while searching on the same issue, what I did was pull on the battery (in the direction of removal) while pushing down on the edge of the laptop (near the battery latch) that was sitting above (bulging above) the battery using a screwdriver. The bulging lip...

Stuck (improperly inserted) battery - any ideas?

Bought a T430 on ebay and the battery is stuck. The release latch cannot be moved to the unlock position. Just to the right of the latch, you can see where the battery improperly meets the laptop body. Any ideas on how to release the battery without damaging either the laptop or battery? http://i175...

Does WSUS Offline let you choose only "important updates"? Re: Prolonged Windows 7 performance deterioration - after 18 months

After a fresh install, I install several must-have apps and then image the operating system partition.

When the computer starts feeling sluggish, which is inevitable on Windows systems, I'll restore the image and install whatever apps I need that aren't already baked into the image.

Re: T430: Any disadvantage to using mSATA SSD besides slightly slower OS launch?

I do not think OS boot will slow down over Sata2 speeds, i think the only thing that will slow down is large data access, like backup/restore or extracting/compressing huge zip files with zero compression ..etc. I think the downside only is that msata SSDs are more prone to overheat when having the...

T430: Any disadvantage to using mSATA SSD besides slightly slower OS launch?

Recently bought a T430 that needs a drive. Considering using an mSATA SSD. My understanding is that the T430's WWAN/mSATA slot is limited to SATA II speeds. And my understanding is that the differences between SATA II and SATA III mostly manifest in throughput when accessing large amounts of data, f...

OK to use 135W power supply with T430?

I bought a used T430 that didn't come with a power supply. This model has discrete graphics, so I assume the OEM power supply is 90W. I don't have a 90W PSU, but I do have a 135W PSU from my Thinkpad W510. Would it be safe to use this 135W PSU with the T430? This would be temporary as I'll get a 90W...

Re: Is W510 to T430 an upgrade?

Actually, a T430 will be around 33% faster overall than your W510, even with integrated graphics. So you are actually getting a nice upgrade (besides the screen, of course). Thanks. That's impressive given the W510 is quad-core and has discrete graphics. I guess the boost comes from having the next...

How to look up specs for newer style machine type numbers?

On Lenovo's site, I inputted a serial number (of a T431s someone is selling), and the site returned this machine type info:
"Machine Type Model 20AAS00900".

But when I try searching Lenovo for that machine type, nothing comes up.

I don't understand this nomenclature. x30 and x40 refer to classic and post-classic models, respectively, in the T, X, and W model lines?

I appreciate the tips and back and forth discussion. I ended up selling the T410s and buying a W510 since I didn't need the easier portability of the T410s and by getting into the W510, I don't need to spend extra on a smaller form factor SSD or an adapter (the W510 drive bay accepts 2.5" form facto...

As I've recently discovered, the W510 I picked up on Craigslist desperately needs a 135W power supply. The 90W AC adapter that came with it (Lenovo) results in massive performance throttling. Seems Lenovo's 170W power supply might also work? Just have to file down the little nubs inside the connecte...

Re: Bought a used W510 and it's very slow - something is wrong - help!

Figured it out - it's the power supply. With the 90W power supply, the laptop is doing a lot of throttling. I redid the test using only battery power and it is much more responsive. Strange Lenovo would design the laptop to run slower (so slow as to be nearly worthless) when plugged in than on batte...
