Re: X31 Recovery CD's Needed

Welcome to thinkpads.com! I have what I believe to be the WinXPP recovery disk set for the X31 but it will take me a day or two to create and upload the .ISOs. It consists of the Rescue and Recovery disk, along with 5 Product Recovery CDs. In the meantime if somebody else already has them online, pl...

Re: Installing Factory Image on X220

I can think of two options: 1) Obtain an Ultrabase Series 3 https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/migr-76765 Be sure it includes a DVD drive in the Ultrabay. They can be had for about $30 on eBay. 2) Try using a portable (external) DVD drive connected via USB Either case would need the appropri...

Re: T23 DVD-drive assembly pictures ? Won't close.

Welcome to thinkpads.com! I believe that there is a plastic latch inside the drive that keeps the tray closed, although it's been some time since I opened one up. My take is that it is easier to replace the entire unit. You could upgrade to a CD-RW/DVD drive (writes CD-R or CD-RW, in addition to rea...

Re: T22 Error 0175/Bad CRC1. Looking for an eeprom dump.

I've tried to edit my current eeprom by comparing with an uncorrupted eeprom from a Thinkpad A21 but with no success If you truly tried to use an A21 EEPROM dump to revive your T22, then I think that's your problem. I believe that the systems are too different to share BIOS firmware. If on the othe...

When you start misplacing them, and can't find the machine you're looking for, you ( may DO) have too many. Three or four, if you ask my wife :) . (See .sig below. I'd guess that a little bit more than half of the different models listed I have multiples of; most working, some not. My notes say tha...

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Am I to assume that you have a way of re-programming the EEPROM while it's still in circuit, or are you attempting to do this with it removed from the motherboard?

Re: RAM frequency vs. power consumption for Carolina idiots

Here's my take on this, from years (decades, even) of a memory test engineering background. Given that the memory clock speed is kept constant in Thinkpads (I'm assuming that all current and past designs do NOT adjust their clock speed when presented with memory modules that have a higher speed rati...

I have Verizon miFi but it is only 5GB cap. I only use it if the internet is running very slow and need to get something done on it. And that runs me $50 a month rather I use it or not. Theirs bills I paid on it with 0.0GB used on it. But don't get anything back if I don't use it, still full $50. I...

The first reference that comes up with a "intel t7600 cpu pinout" Google search is this:

http://download.intel.com/design/mobile ... 407804.pdf

Section 4 lists the pinout, although there does not seem to be any documentation about undervolting (done by searching the .PDF).

The T410s was also used occasionally for the same purpose. Slightly OT: Tonight on Hawaii Five-0 (Season 8 Episode 7), near the end of the show, there was a ColorWare T410s shown. Had the usual Windows logo on the lid and the ColorWare printing above the left hinge (slightly out of focus on my scre...

Re: Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz

To be clear, what system are we talking about here? T2x cannot implement P4 so I'm assuming that you are doing this on a T30. If so, then it's likely that the missing (dead) battery is preventing the system from running at full speed. Try installing a known good battery and re-measure the system spe...

The photo of the battery (#2 in series of 4) shows an 8-cell design. You can tell by the fact that it sticks out from the laptop all of the way across the back side. The 4-cell battery fits flush with the back and does not stick out at all. Note that the seller hasn't really told you much about the ...

Re: 15,1" T60p with non-IPS display?

I'd lean toward the MTM lookup being correct. If the system has a T60p nameplate on the bezel, then it's possible that somebody either swapped the entire lid assembly, or slapped on the wrong clear plate (the plastic strip over the indicator LEDs).

Re: T430s broken ethernet port

If you can't find the RJ45 jack on Digikey, then try Mouser.com. I'm presuming that you can successfully extract a multi-pin ethernet connector from a motherboard if you're looking for a replacement part. The danger doing that is that when you are removing the jack you cause some damage to the mothe...

I would assume that it would take more that a simple concatenation action. My uneducated guess is that you could accomplish a single disk/...

Re: T400 stuck on ThinkPad logo

On some older Thinkpads I've found that a defective (stuck) key can cause a non-boot, stuck at splash screen condition. If you have a docking station/port replicator you can disconnect the laptop's keyboard, mount the laptop to the dock and use the power switch there to boot the system. If it works,...

Assuming that you could still find that program online (PC Doctor forced IBM/Lenovo to suspend distribution many years ago), it only tests hardware pieces such as memory, microprocessor, graphic chips, floppy/hard/optical drives, and the like. The Super I/O chip on the X24 motherboard appears to be a National Semiconductor PC87391. It's on the bottom labelled U241; "below" the memory slot and to the upper left of the docking port connector. Looking at the datasheet, it does not appear to have any EEPROM/flash memory that could be used to ...
