Re: A31p wireless

There are no compatible "g" cards for A3x series. You might get lucky and get Broadcom 4306/4309 to work without "1802 hack". Everything else will require a hack, be it Intel or IBM/Atheros, at least in my experience. Beg to differ... My Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG card is working in this A30 just f...

Re: A30 motherboard question

I have a thinkpad A30 whose battery charging circuit has failed. I also have a spare motherboard which appears functional with the exception that it will not boot due to a unknown BIOS password being set. From reading various posts on this subject I understand that BIOS passwords are difficult to r...

Definitely sounds like a GPU problem... I just replaced the complete motherboard on my A30 with a NOS (in IBM box with paperwork) from e-bay. Takes about 2 1/2 hours and you don't "lose" the laptop for 2 weeks. My cost was less than $160 for the new MB including shipping and insurance. I believe the...

We'll keep it going along these lines...

Okay.. Burroughs teletype input/output device (ya, the number escapes me too, but I think it was a TC521) with the integrated card reader attached to a Burroughs B3500 main frame connected to about 100 other users using 9600 baud line drivers (short haul modems). The terminal was only capable of 110...

GPU Failing Resolved, But...

Okay, Replacement MB I got was actually an A30 2654-BC2 NOT an A30P as I thought so there was no problem doing the R&R. Used small medicine Ziploc bags marked with a permanent marker to keep each sub-assembly's screws together (something I've used for a couple decades in electronics). Everything wor...

Just out of curiosity, what will you do with the Firewire and S-Video in ports of the A30p motherboard? Cut holes into the A30 body? Cutting a notch is one option. That hole is actually a glued on piece. Or use a sub-card without the Firewire connector. Because that port doesn't provide power, I ne...

The A3x Hardware Maintenance Manual says that the A30 15" SXGA+ cable is a 27L0682.
Thank you. Since that's the cable I have currently, I should be good to go when I can get to the MB. I'll let you all know what happens.

Re: A30P motherboard work with an A30 SXGA 15in screen?

Yes :) . Used them at NASA-Ames Research Center back in the early to mid '70s. I probably still have the card decks that I had punched out from a FORTRAN Star Trek program that was running on the IBM mainframe. !!! I think I still have that on an old 2400ft reel tape (FORTRAN 4) along with a couple...

A30P motherboard work with an A30 SXGA 15in screen?

I have a motherboard from a A30P and a bad motherboard (GPU flaked) in an A30 with a almost ''perfect'' LCD (one pixel dead that I can see). If it can be done... What do I need to complete the swap? I periodically have that problem with my Dock II and the only thing I've found that seems to work is to take the TP off the dock, unplug the power cord at the back of the dock, wait a few
minutes (2 -10 varies), plug the cord back into the dock, and finally put the TP back on it.

Note: It is supported by Lenovo and ThinkPad drivers are listed on Lenovo's website

Not sure how the touchpad on the R40 is connected (A30 has none), but you have a couple of choices... One is to wait for someone else to chime in (Moderators?). You can take it apart and see how the touchpad is attached and if it can be taken apart. You can then replace any broke parts that you find...

Half length PCI card. Some people think this is full size because they've never seen a full length card.

I'd upload a picture but this board does not have the option/software to load images directly.

Standard PCI video card will fit. Card is approx. 6 - 8 inches long

I'm betting that the memory you need is low density. High density PC133 144 pin soDIMM will not work not work with most older systems. The chipset itself is too new.
