Problem solved!
Yesterday, I took a plunge and buy a Black & Decker heat gun. After dismantling my T40 and removing the motherboard, I blasted it with hot air. Started blowing hot air at distance to warm-up motherboard, and then continue to focus the hot air around GPU. It took approx 5 minutes. After cool down, co...

Sounds like overheating or graphics chip problem. Just because nothing happens when you press the chip, and it sometimes shuts down when you don't, doesn't exclude this. Do you have a temperature monitoring program? Thanks. Yes I do, I use T43 fan controller. I didn't record the temps, but it seems...

I have XP and ubuntu on my 2nd HDD and they behave the same (ubuntu always shut it down during boot). - Not an ATI graphic chip's cold solder problem. I pressed t...

OMG!
Do they skip x70, like they did with x50?
BTW, since 8 is good number in China, they will manufacture special edition x88

I noticed that my fan works harder after Banias 1.3 -> Dothan 1.8 upgrade. I still use the same short fan though. Thats wierd, I thought dothans had a TDP of 21 w as compared to 27w for banias ? They can be undervolted further to make then run even more cooler :banana: Yeah... just my feeling, no w...

Probably nobody ever "upgrade" from Atheros to Intel, so it is irreversible...xtr wrote: I've tried booting my T42p without my crappy 2200bg mini-pci plugged in the socket and instead of the centrino badge showing in BIOS splash screen, the Pentium M logo appeared!!

Re: Centrino logo
Sorry, silly question: :roll: If you replace intel card with atheros one, will the centrino logo at startup also disappear (change to pentium logo)? YES, it changes. I've done it. Same on the R-series, too. Wow... that's means there are 2 logos stored in the BIOS/CMOS. The only thing you have to do...

Fn F5 Ubuntu 7.04 + T40 atheros a/b/g -> doesn't work
Hi,
I just installed Ubuntu 'feisty' on my T40. Wifi worked straight away, but the Fn F5 button seems doesn't work, I cannot turn off my wifi. Does anybody has the same experience? My wifi card is IBM a/b/g (atheros, version 1).
