Re: Revisit: External Monitor or HDTV with X61 or X61T w/Docks
I have a partial answer for you on this, I think. I've got a very similar config on my main X61T (1.8GHz 750GB Seagate Momentus XT, 4GB RAM, Win 7 64-bit, plus dock). When docked, it is connected to two monitors, one is an ancient LaCie electron22blue III (a high end 22" CRT), and one is a Dell 2007...

Re: 600e and 600x mobo swap
Simple question, does a 600x motherboard fit into a 600e shell? I found a cheap 600e in god nick locally and wanted to use it to repair the 600x from the workshop. But its too far gone so i'm thinking a mobo cpu ram and hdd swap. I haven't tried this myself, but I recall reading somewhere on the fo...

Re: Got 600E...strange beep symptom...need help
I was just checking elsewhere, and it looks like the 701 series uses a similar "16 volt" connector as what is used in many later Thinkpads, including the 600 series. However, the original 701 series adapters I think are 2.2 amp, 35 watt adapters, like this one: http://www.cheap-chargers.com/ac-adapt...

Re: Got 600E...strange beep symptom...need help
Well, I'm not sure about all those beeps, but I would bet that you simply can't boot the device without a backup/CMOS battery installed. If you install a dead one, then you should at least get some error codes. Also, I'm surprised that you are able to plug the adapter from your 701C to power the 600...

Re: YouTube on older thinkpads
I agree with what others have said about Flash being the main culprit: it was always slow (for video streaming), and more recent versions of it are more CPU intensive than before. Also, some Youtube videos now force you to view the video as a constant stream rather than allowing your browser to down...

Re: IBM ThinkPad 760/770/600X Seletadock III Graphics cards
There are plenty of cheap ATI 92xx series PCI cards out there, same with Nvidia 5xxx PCI cards. I would advise against purchasing these cards to try them out unless you find a record of someone successfully installing them. I unsuccessfully tried both an ATI 9250 and an nVidia 5500 on my SelectaDoc...

Re: IBM ThinkPad 760/770/600X Seletadock III Graphics cards
Over a period of several years, I spent considerable time trying to configure various (used) cards in several different SelectaDock III configurations (including 770Z and 600X machines and running under Win98 through XP). See: SelectaDock III - Unofficial Graphics Card Compatibility List: http://thi...

Re: 770Z DVD playback with DEVA card / Maximum hard drive size.
I've got a couple of these 770Z's and I've had various OSes installed on them at various times, and I ran into some issues with the DEVA card as well, so I'll try to summarize what I remember as well as respond to a couple stray other issues that have cropped up in this thread so far. Yes, it can house a standard 3.5" EIDE ATA Hard Drive. Not sure of the maximum size: it is probably BIOS and OS dependent. I've used a 300GB drive in ...

Re: tablet buttons not working on x61t with windows xp
This was originally shipped with Vista Business (the original sticker in the bottom is too worn out to read but that's what Lenovo support site says), so I guess even OEM XP Tablet edition won't work here? If the set that you've obtained is a genuine Lenovo one, no activation will be required. You ...

Re: Latest compatible OS for x61, x60, and x60s
I would echo what others have said about these machines being fully compatible with both Windows XP (or XP Tablet Edition for X61T) and Windows 7. You will find various debates about the relative performance of these OSes on the web, but I would identify two major things to consider. First, switchin...

Re: MIDI Synth on 600E?
I never used the MIDI Synth on those machines, but I have some vague recollection that under Win98 the Midi synth is somehow connected to whether or not you have your game port set for a game port device or for a Midi device. Or that they require some kind of IRQ fiddling to get them to work correct...

Re: x61 tablet random blank screen on startup
I have experienced something similar in a handful of scattered incidents on my X60 Tablet running XP SP3 Tablet Edition. In my case, it seems to be linked to different display configurations, multiple hardware profiles and/or the use of a docking station. It is ALWAYS fixable for me simply by perfor...

I heard someplace a few panasonic toughbooks were made with a rare mmc2 1ghz that was custom made for them. Don't know if this is true or not. My recollection is that these 1GHz MMC-2 cards were custom-built specifically for that specific Toughbook model, and that they had a slightly different heig...

Re: non-Lenovo battery. Is it possible to use in x61?
You should be able to run a non-genuine battery in your Thinkpad without it blinking orange all the time. The blinking orange may mean that there is a problem with the battery, or that it needs to be reconditioned/recharged. The first thing you should do is make sure that it is seated correctly. The...

I'm not sure I understand what you have done so far and what has worked and what hasn't. If you used the floppy disk drive earlier to boot up and then install Windows 98 via your CD-ROM, then your floppy drive should be able to boot your system again. I'm not sure why the floppy drives aren't showin...

Re: X60t - clean XP install
Hey tinkerer, My understanding was that you needed XP Tablet Edition to get the pen and screen rotation to work. Whether it is SP2 and SP3 I don't think matters. There are other drivers you can probably find to rotate your screen, but I don't think you can get the pen input without extra software or...

Re: How to set fan speed always at max on a 600X
Another note about the cooling: the air that the fan pulls through is designed to pull air in from the specific vents in the bottom so that it flows in across key components and chambers. [....] Be sure not to leave the battery bay and ultrabay empty so that air does not leak in through there. Make...

I had reasonable experiences with knockoffs/generic battery replacements for both the 770 and 600 series, though I don't have experience with this particular seller. For my 600X machines, I started to get my packs refilled instead of buying generic replacements because that affected whether I could ...

There was only one such performance upgrade that I ever heard about: a 133MHz board that also increased the amount of memory you could install. Re: X61 going into standby without warning when on AC
First thing to check is if your power manager settings are telling it to do that. On many default power settings, it is normal for a laptop to go into standby when not in use for a certain length of time, even when plugged in.
