yes
I got the firmware from that first link you supplied. The second link is for a different drive. I am thinking of RMAing it, it is probably defective.

I did try two different types of media
One was TDK DVD-R and another was an Office DEPOT DVD-RW. Can't read, or write to either of them.

Problem with DVD-burner UJ-812
Hi guys, i got a t42p with a dvd burner UJ-812 and the thing doesn't want to read DVD-R's and DVD-RW's. It does read CD-R's and CD-RW's and regular pressed CD as well as DVD. Has anyone had any issues with the DVD recording capabilities of this drive? And does anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks...

Yes, same problem here
All the settings seem to be fine after resumption from standby or hibernate, but the cpu speed is locked at the highest setting. This i confirm with CPU-Z which shows a live cpu reading. In order to get back to 600mhz or adaptive mode, i have to use battery maximiser to set it manually. This doesn't...

CPU Speed question
Hi, i have a t42p, and a very weird thing happens with my cpu frequency. I set my power settings on maximum battery life, so that the cpu speed throttles down to 600mhz. All is fine, until i go to standby mode. As soon as i come back from standby mode, the speed goes up to 2000hz (my full speed). To...

T42p 9 cell battery question
Hi guys, i am curious how many charge-discharge cycles do our 9 cell batteries last for? I already got around a 100 on mine (or so it says in the battery properties). How many more do i have to go?
Thanks.
Thanks.

cpu detection question
Hi guys, i have a t42p 2373ktu. For some reason when the cpu is working at full speed (2gigahertz) when you right click on my computer, on the general tab it shows it is running at 597 mhz. And when i run it on power savings mode at 600mhz, it shows there that it is running at 197mhz. I know these n...

hmmm
It seems like my problem only happens sometimes, that is, sometimes upon returing from a standby, the cpu speed is fine (at 600), but sometimes it goes all the way up to 2Gig, even with the highest power savings on. I think all my drivers are up to date. The battery maximiser is latest, the bios as ...

CPU speed does not throttle down
Hi guys, I have a t42p 2373ktu, and recently i've noticed that every time i resume from standby mode, the cpu speed goes all the way back up to 2000mhz and does not come down to 600mhz, even though i am in super battery savior mode, which calls for "slow" cpu speed. So it is like it is ignoring the ...

T42 power cord question
Hi guys, i noticed that on my T42 the power cord piece that goes from the wall outlet to the power supply, is only 3 feet long. I was wondering where i can buy the same piece of cord that is a bit longer than 3 ft. I think it is a pretty standard cord, since i've seen them on some stereos.
Thanks.
Thanks.

a question about warranty repair
Hi all, i found a small problem on my brand new 2373ktu. The left mouse button on the touchpad, doesn't click good if i push it on the right edge, instead of on the center. The other edge works good. I am curious how i can fix this? Would i have to send it in for repair or could they send me the par...

i can't create recovery cd's
In the IBM Rescue and Recovery wtih Rapid Resote menu, all i can see is an option to "Create Diagnostic disk", but these are 5 floppy disks that it wants to create. These are not CD's. How can i create those 7 cd's that someone above is talking about?

Could somebody explain to me all this business with recovery
cds? I am a proud owner of a brand new t42p 2373ktu, and i did not receive the windows xp cd with my purchase. I noticed there is a recovery partition, and i read other posts on this forum how this could be used to recover your windows. However, my question is what happens if i decide to wipe my dri...

How do you enable the power savings on the ati controller and the wireless card? My wireless card is on always, since i always use it.
Also, sorry for the multitude of questions, but how to check my power usage?
Thanks.

How to understand IBM's model numbering system?
Like for example, the 2373 GVU comes with an IBM wireless nic. What if i wanted to change that to an Intel wireless nick and add more ram, how would i do that? And what would the model number be?

Where is the best place to buy a T42 that accepts a PO
Hi, i am currently considering either buying the 2373gvu or the 2373gru. Does anyone know a good place to buy either of those that accepts a Purchase Order? I heard that buying from IBM directly is a rip off. Also, what do you guys think about the IBM tri mode a/b/g card versus the intel b/g 2200 ca...

I also wanted to ask about...
The extended 9 cell battery, does it stick out of the back of the laptop, or is it the same size as the 6 cell battery? Also, does it add considerable battery power?
thanks.
thanks.

Question about T42
Hi, I am considering to buy the T42. I read some reviews which state the T42 has horrible battery power, in the range of 2.5 hours, is that true?? Also, i heard some bad stuff about the 15" flexview displays, specifically that it has slow refresh leaving a trail and causing ghosting. Is the 14" inch...
