I didn't like the fact that you couldn't cut and paste files in the OS, I mean this is (was) 2007 and you have to drag and drop files up or down levels of folders? Come on. Windows 3.11 could cut and paste files. Just click on a file, option-C to copy and option-X to paste. Works great for me! :-) ...

Matshita UJDA DVD/CDRW is it + or -

I just tried to read a DVD- in my T42 which has a Matshita UJDA DVD/CDRW (755) but nothing happens.

Is the disc broken, or doesn't my drive read DVD- just DVD+?

There is no comparison. The only reason to get a MacBook is to save money. You get what you pay for. Exactly. The X60 is 50% (or more) more expensive...:-) so it is kind of a strange comparison. I just installed my fiances sisters MacBook and I think it was great! Smooth, quick, good looking - exac...

So, for instance, SafeGuard Easy , with full encrytpion on harddrive together with FPR isn't any safer than SafeGuard Easy together with a password? The fact that you must have the correct fingerprint to access the computer is easy to go around? If you're not using a security system that encrypts yo...

How secure is the fingerprint reader?

I'm trying to understand just how secure the FPR is. In the IBM white paper they say that... "If the integrated fingerprint reader is not available, it is necessary to use the CSS administrative tool to change the policy with regard to the fingerprint reader. Once that is done, normal use can procee...

Merom will indeed be 64-bit; meaning it will be fully able to natively support 64-bit OSes and applications. :) So for me, using a T42 but going for a X60, that will be something worth waiting for. But it all depends on what situation you're in; I've got a pretty good laptop but would like a smalle...

Isn't Merom 64-bit? And isn't that a good thing when running Vista or OS X Leopard?

Ok - now it's one week since it broke down, and still no date on when the spare part is coming. Guess that IBM service isn't up to US standards in Sweden. :-( I hope to get a call today that tells me a) when my computer is back, and b) if I could get a replacement until it's ready. For someone like ...

My T42 broke down

This sunday my screen just died on me when I pressed a key. I restarted and now the screen worked again for awhile, but then it suddenly became all corrupt and distored. There was still a visible image, and I could just see the cursor moving, but it was rellay ugly looking. then it died on me again....

I just went ahead and didn't do anything in the BIOS at all- I just deleted the hidden partition (using PartitionMagic) and then expanded the primary one so it covered the space used up by the service partition. Seems to work great!

Re: Cannot access HPA even after disabling it in BIOS

Using Partition Magic you can reclaim the space occupied by HPA. Be aware that after you re-claim the space your HPA will be gone and you cannot reinstall the factory installed system. By using Partition Magic you don't need to reformat the whole drive to reclaim the HPA space and to partition your...

The light version of this, wouldn't that be to just skip to step 10 where the IBM partition is disabled, and just erease it? Or could it be even more easy: when I check the drive with PartitionMagic I see the hidden partition, and I'm playing with the idea to just erase it and incorporate it with th...

Great guide -thanks a lot!

So I won't have to worry about the pre installed (by IBM) programs in the Program folder? Like RecordNow, Movie Maker, PC Doctor, etc? I'll be able to download what's not in the IBMTOOLS folder?

Shortage of SXGA+ T42?

I ordered a T42 in the beginning of September (a 2373-JXG which would be the same as a 2373-JXU in the states). The delivery was first said to be in a couple of weeks, maybe three. Then a date came, which was last Thursday. Today they say that it won't be delivered until the 27th of October. Since i...

Right now it has a battery life of, let's say, 5 minutes. :-) But maybe the old 600e had some worked with a technique that ...

Risks of updating the bios?

When poking around in my 600e (366Mhz) I saw that I didn't have the lates BIOS installed. I've got INET35WW, but the latest is INET36WW (although with the same release date as INET35WW?!). the only changes is obviously that the later has Win XP support. Well...I've got WinXP and it works. Disable trackpoint (error 8611)

My TP 600e has had a weird acting trackpoint for a week now, and earlier today it just refused to start up, giving me the infamous 8611 error. I was hoping to disable the trackpoint via hacking the cmos, but I can't get the various hacks to work. They all refer to the 20h offset, but I guess that co...
