Docking station type 2631 with pcmcia port, etc.

Hi everyone, I have a type 2631 docking station which I pulled out of a dusty cupboard. I have nothing to test it with, so I can only assume it works. It's the hefty one with everything including the kitchen sink on it: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-4PER6S If you want ...

Reinstalling Vista on a Vista/Win7 dual installation

I remember in an XP/Vista dual installation, you had to install Vista last and couldn't reinstall XP because XP would mess up some setup which handles the dual installation. Is this also true for a Vista/Win7 dual installation? My Vista installation needs to be reinstalled, but I don't want to mess ...

Re: Buyer's Remorse

This is exactly the experience I wish to avoid. Instead I just bought another T60 to back up my current T60. :D Frankly, I can't even consider upgrading to newer model Thinkpad until Lenovo stop putting huge bezels around the screen. I mean, small bezels on T60 --> large bezels on T420... at least t...

Thanks Richk. I'll make a bee-line for this when I disassemble it on the weekend and have a good poke around the inverter.

Much appreciated!

Re: Screen works, but only if I don't open it too much

Thanks for the reply RealBlackStuff. Time is stopping me at the moment RealBlackStuff. It is my main work computer and I work 10 to 12 hours a day so I have an old monitor I had laying around attached to it for the moment so I can get things done. On the weekend, I'll have the time to take it apart ...

Re: Screen works, but only if I don't open it too much

Thanks for replying guys. Richk, I agree it does act much like the "closed" sensor magnet. It is the backlight that is turning off - the picture is still being sent successfully to the screen, I assume this is what happens when you close the screen on a laptop? Monck, unfortunately the VGA output on...

Re: Screen works, but only if I don't open it too much

Thanks Monck. More information: I've just had a more careful look - when the screen is "black", it's not actually black - the backlight has turned off. When I look carefully, I can still see the display and it moves and works, just no backlight. Is it possible the "screen closed" sensor is messed up...

Screen works, but only if I don't open it too much

Hi, started up my T60 2007-BN5 laptop this morning and the screen remained entirely black. When I close the screen, the display turns on perfectly fine when the angle is about 45 degrees to the keyboard or less. Opening the screen more than this makes the display blank again. Seems like a broken wir...

Re: New OS, Office, HDD & fan for T60, things to do while there?

Thanks for the advice guys. Money is very limited unfortunately so the solid state drive is out of reach and as I already have a Core Duo, I'm not sure it's worth the expense of upgrading the processor. If only money wasn't a factor! Model is 2007-BN5 and I've replaced the drive in the past with a 7...

New OS, Office, HDD & fan for T60, things to do while there?

My trusty T60, used 12 hours a day for three or four years now, is getting a bit of a day-spa treatment in a week's time. The fan has gone rattly, so that's being replaced. New larger HDD. Upgrade from XP to Win7. Upgrade from Office 2007 to Office 2010. Since I'm doing all this, any advice for thin...

I don't consider upgrading from T60 firstly due to thick bezels.

Heatsink strangely absent...?

Hi all, my T60 2007-BN5 fan has started making a grinding noise and researching here says I need to replace it before it breaks down. Out of warranty. The problem is, I've looked everywhere on TPforum and IBM site - can't find the part number... it's absent from everything. 2007-BN5 is not listed he...

T60 running very slow, both processors sharing 50% idle

Hi all, I have a T60 (2007-BN5) with 3 gig ram, 7200rpm HDD (about 250gig or something) and it's run a treat for three years now, brilliant machine. It crashed a little earlier, no alt-ctrl-del response so I held down power to restart it. Now, it does this: Windows takes 4 or 5 minutes to start and ...

Thanks Mike, I'd come to a similar conclusion from Googling but wasn't feeling very at ease about it. To see someone else come to the same conclusion is reassuring! Only doubt in my mind is that I'd imagine there'd be lots of mentions of this false-positive on the board here, but I find practically ...

Viruses in "Restore to Factory Settings"...???

I'd have thought this would be impossible, but... I bought a T40 for a relative off eBay. Avast virus checker said that XPclient.exe had a trojan horse virus. No matter I figured, going to restore to factory settings anyway, and did so. Sure enough, after restoring to factory settings, it was gone. ...

Restoring factory installation into a partition..? Possible?

My auntie's hard-working T23 is starting to feel it's age - red tinged screen and now a bunch of blue-screens after a fresh XP install. Rather than diagnose what's causing the problem to only have the screen finally die 6 months later, we've decided to upgrade to a sexy T40. I've always had her on a...

If you're keen on a HDD that's larger than 6GB, let me know because I'll still happily offload one of the spare drives if it works and has no bad sectors. G'day, I've got a mate of mine who is a university student, very much struggling financially. I'm not exactly rolling in money myself (small business owner...) otherwise I'd buy him a beautiful T43.
