I was thinking of doing this too when prices drop a bit, but would this mean having to live with a 2010 error every boot?

Ah well, thanks for letting me know :)

I'm considering setting up an account with USABox or Access USA and getting mine that way; just waiting for an email from Lenovo about the warranty.

Thanks again and all the best,

Yeah, exactly. What annoys me more than low quality products, are the ones engineered to break. Much like those C-Clamps jdhurst mentioned. The classic example that gets me going is a stainless steel hand whisk I saw. The ones with a handle and wheel you turn. Great stuff, except they'd used cheap p...

I'm going to replace my current desktop and laptop combo too.

I'll use it for games, development, and plug it into my hifi through the mini dock. I can't wait :)

Ah, that's not what I was hoping to hear :(

I've been following the thread because I'm looking for a T61p with encrypted disk, which I can't get in the UK.

I've seen people mention Bill Morrow on other threads, does he sell ThinkPads, and could he get a CTO?

In reply to my own post, it could be this one here:

A 160Gb Seagate Momentus 5400 FDE.2 with 128bit AES. Anyone know if that's the one?

Ugh, yeah, I'm really confused :? I'm looking to pick up my first ThinkPad, a t61p, but I have no idea which one is which, or what features they have. Did you manage to figure it out in the end? I can only really see the NH36XUK most places online. Dabs seems to have a good price at the moment at £1...

Does anyone know which algorithm the encrypted disk uses?

It sounds a straight forward solution, much easier than dm-crypt on Linux and the hassle that brings. Though it does open the possibility of back doors...
