FAT16 formatting will be the most compatible for DOS. A 4 GB partition size will be too large for most versions of DOS to see.

At http://johnson.tmfc.net/dos/usbdrv.html you will find a disk image that allows you to try various drivers until hopefully one works.

Use Dban to wipe the drive first. A minimal single pass wipe should do it. Boot with a DOS floppy and use Fdisk to create a partition. Finally format the drive from the DOS floppy. The operating system should install then.

AdAware 1.06 is still supported. However now if you are running the Personal Edition, you must download the weekly updates manually. Look for new definitions files every Monday - hey that's today!

The screws are Metric size M3 with a maximum length of 3.5mm. The screw has a flat head about 0.5mm thick. See Ebay item number: 190194149554 for example.

Although Metric screws are widely available, the short length and thin head used for the hard drive mounting are hard to find.

8 chip 128 MB modules are low density. For a 256 MB module to be low density it should have 16 chips. I don't think a 256 MB module with 8 chips will work in a 600X.

There is no problem. The 600X has low speed USB. Close the warning box and just use the drive at low speed or get a USB 2.0 PC card if you need the faster speed. The card may not power the drive by itself. An external 5 volt power supply might be required. I tried stealing power from the built in US...

From your description the plug may be type EIAJ-05. There are many different sizes of power plugs as noted here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaxial_DC ... Connectors

By measuring the plug that fits the Thinkpad, you can identify the plug type and might have better luck finding one.

A six cell battery is composed of three parallel connected cell pairs all connected in series. A bad cell in any of the parallel cell pairs would cause the battery to behave just as described. I doubt that the battery pack can be salvaged and would not expect that the internal electronics is at fault.
